I have a Microsoft 10 (64-bit) PC running iTunes Version 12.10.11.2. When I go to Help --> Check for Updates, I get an iTunes info box that says, "A new version of iTunes (12.13) is available. Would you like to download it now?

The link you posted was what I used to download and install my current version of iTunes, 12.10.11.2. By the way, the Apple store lists iTunes 12.10.11 as the latest version available, so I have no clue why the reference to version 12.13 pops up.

The advice from others about updating via Microsoft Store, without deleting previous version works. I was having an issue with my music library and encountered many issues uninstalling and reinstalling due to 12.13 update (5 hour session and another 3 hour session with apple support).

Due to the fault finding with Apple support I was told to delete app. Many issues going to Microsoft Store in first instance (faulty installs). In the end, from Apple website, I installed linked version 12.10.11 (64 bit). It installs and gives a message 'Itunes library.itl can't be loaded because it was created by a later version'. I then used Apple software updater, which presented the new version 12.13 and Itunes update worked.

When installing the store version on WIndows 11 the iphone synchronization in iTunes doesn't work due to missing drivers. For me it's only working by using desktop version of iTunes. Just migrated to Win11, on Win10 this was no issue at all.

So now I am trying to sync some apps from my iTunes library that were legally purchased and downloaded under my existing App Store account some time ago. These apps no longer are maintained by the developer and are not in the App Store any longer to download directly to the device.

When the computer is really not authorized clicking on the app produces a dialog box to authorize the iTunes account. When I manually authorize the computer from the iTunes menu clicking on the app no longer asks me to sign in to the account as you would expect, but trying to sync the still says that the computer is not authorized.

Ah, no. Specifically this is the way to do it in iTunes 12.7 or later. Apple support documents tend to assume you're running the current software release, so won't include details for methods used in older builds. As noted earlier to manage apps (in iTunes 12.6.5.3) you would need to click this device icon first;

The screen capture doesn't show it, but as I drag over the device what I actually see is the same IPA document icon as in the bottom of the Explorer window with a Link overlay making it clear that an interaction will be allowed.

When using iTunes 12.7 or later you won't get a display in iTunes for the apps on the device. In principle you can drag and drop from Windows Explorer or Finder to the device where it appears in the sidebar in iTunes. For really old apps it may be that there is some form of expired certificate that prevents them from being installed now. Repeated authorization requests are also a feature of corrupted downloads or transfers so could be another potential explanation. FWIW I just used iTunes 12.10.2.3 to transfer the app Inception to my iPhone 11. It didn't transfer when I migrated from a 6 but I have an archive copy of the .ipa file from 2016. It doesn't support my AirPods so I guess it is going to go again, but the drag & drop method should generally work.

So I tried to drag and drop from the Desktop to the itunes sidebar (while Library was selected) even though there isn't and app section showing. It doesnt appear that anything under "device" is a drop target (the icon just bounces back to the desktop).

I'm running iOS 13.2.2 on my iPhone 11 pro max, and Windows 7, but this process has worked the same way since the release of iTunes 12.7 with iPhone 6 plus, on various iterations of iOS, and works on Macs as well as Windows. I captured a similar screenshot for adding a PDF file, and tones are added in the same way.

I just spent hours trying to get an old version of an app installed using a hacky method of downloading the ipa and using 12.6.5.3 but ran into authorization issues. I attempted the drag and drop using the latest itunes 12.10.3.1 on Windows 10 for my Iphone 11 on ios 13.2 and it worked!

I'm currently on iTunes version 12.4.3.1 (windows) but it's now giving me iTunes store authentication and sync errors (unknown error (-50)). I ran the diagnostic, and it says I'm not connected to the internet, which is incorrect.

To underscore the fiend's point that your copy of iTunes is outdated note that apart from iTunes 12.6.4.3 all other builds with a lower version number than 12.7.2.58 have outdated encryption support and are no longer able to connect to the iTunes Store for account management purposes. See About App Store and iTunes Store availability - Apple Support for more information.

I'm not sure why you would need to be connected to the internet or the iTunes Store in order to work with your iPod since the Classic cannot use any of the features you mentioned. I suggest that you cancel all attempts to access the store (more of that in the next paragraph) and work just with your library and the iPod.

The reason that your iTunes is having issue connecting to the store is because it now requires iTunes 12.7.2.58 (I believe) as a minimum in order to use the store. You will not be able to authenticate with the iTunes Store with the version of iTunes that you are using. That does lead to the question of why you're using such an outdated version of iTunes?

Even if you can resolve the authentication issue and use your iPod with 12.4.3.1, that is such an old version that I would recommend that you update to the most recent version that your computer can use (see above). The version you're using is seven years old. There have been countless updates to iTunes since then, to address security issues and resolve bugs.

Well, even that isn't actually true. Apple no longer offer a repair service for iPods; many (but not all models) no longer receive software updates, but iTunes supports all iPods and your fellow users here (on a site provided by Apple) are able to help with many, many issues, including iPods that are not recognised by iTunes. Yes, it does happen - but it is fixable. See:

As also stated, iTunes 12.7.2.58 is required in order to use the iTunes Store, which in your case, means authenticating songs purchased from the store. Again, for security reasons. It's not "broken"; you haven't installed a version of iTunes that ensures that the iTunes Store is not compromised.

Again, all versions of iTunes should be able to sync to an iPod classic. Very occasionally there might be an issue with some function in the last release, in which case switching to the one before usually resolves things. iTunes libraries are forward compatible. If you need to revert to a slightly older build of iTunes, and it won't open your library, you should be able to copy a recent backup out of the Previous iTunes Libraries folder that is compatible with that build. Obviously the longer you use a new version of iTunes the more changes you will make, and the less desirable rolling back will be.

See the very bottom of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community for recent installers and Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community for details of how to roll back your library if required.

I have windows 10 home, 64 bit. The reason I didn't want to upgrade my itunes to the latest version, is I've read you loose syncing ability with older ipods. I have quite a few ipods (classic, 5th gen, nano, mini ect.) that I use in my car, in my basement, on old stereos, which I would like to keep up to date with my current music collection. I actually enjoy the ability of playing music I have ripped or bought previously without having to use internet or cell service.

Some of the older songs I have bought on itunes now require authentication to sync or play (which is what is now broken)... it annoys me that I have to log in to utilize something I bought already. Guess I'll have to convert it when I am able to play it again.

I have Had Nothing but trouble, as a lot of people have, with all of the iTunes Vers. 12's. After installing 12.7, My library has completely vanished again for the second time (first time was 12.5), 'tuningtest' showed me how to restore the previous library I had, however, with these problems continuing to happen with every "upgrade" I would like to rollback to a previous vers. 11, or if anyone can recomend a good one to rollback to, that would be great! So if someone could post a link on how to roll back to a previous WORKING version of iTunes that would be greatly appreciated.

- Also If I do successfully rollback to a previous version, will I have to manually reinstall my entire music library on to that version of itunes again? or can I do that thing where you relabel a previous library version, while labeling the current library file corrupt?

I had the same thought, go back to an earlier version. However, so far I haven't been able to do that. First I copied my ITunes Media folder to another location so that I could just copy it back later and not have to download everything again. When you reinstall iTunes all you have to do is copy the files back to where you want them, then in the ITunes Menu-File-Add Folder to Library, you can get them back into iTunes. Then I deleted iTunes from my PC and attempted to reinstall an older version. The REAL problem I ran into trying this is my system would not let me reinstall an older version of iTunes. I suspect the install/upgrade of iTunes 12.7 put a version number in the windows registry (or somewhere else?) and stopped the reinstall of the older version. I even tried the windows regedit.exe program to delete all references to iTunes and Apple in the registry but some of the windows registry items I could not delete. It said I didn't have permission. Guess that is locked down unless you have a higher skill set than I do (I'm also pretty much a novice). I also would NOT RECOMMEND you try to change/edit your windows registry unless you really know what you are doing. You could crash your whole computer doing that.
