pi4j 1.0 to 1.2 transition -- write not working anymore

Hello:

My pi4j 1.0 based code works fine.

Upon migrating to pi4j 1.2 Serial.writeln() to "/dev/ttyXXX" isn't working at all. This is on an RPI B (not B Plus)

Messages initiated by the device are coming in fine, so the SerialDataEventListener is fine.

In fact, upon writeln() the bytes are just getting echo-ed right back into SerialDataEventListener.dataReceived()

Clearly something has changed between 1.0 and 1.2, what might I be missing?
