WiringPi still needs to run as root?

I have a working java application that I would like to add a gui to.

When I run it as non-root (in order to get x to run) Wiring Pi aborts because it is not running as root.

How should I build an Pi4J application to run as non-root so that I can add a Java Frame etc.?
