I think we can continue to contribute usefully to the community by demonstrating various sensors and actuators on various platforms. As a community of bloggers we might stimulate introduction of new devices, which could generate enough data for input into pattern recognition algorithms.

As an analogy, consider two of Google's most successful applications: Blogger and You Tube. Blogger is self-publishing and You Tube is self-broadcasting. How can we create a platform for self-implementation of health and fitness devices?

The analogy is quite appropriate when you see how Blogger and You Tube have overcome the high cost and technical ramp up of the old models of print publishing and video broadcasting. Health and fitness devices are currently expensive and require extensive technical skills. How can we make the start-up easier for others who want to build new devices?

There are roughly five scenarios implemented on my blog that may be useful to obtain and aggregate health/ fitness data:
  1. Sending sensor data or state information to Web service
  2. Activating devices from Web services by polling Web services for state information
  3. Saving Sensor Data as Comma Separated Values (csv) on the SD Card
  4. Graphing data on a .NET Gadgeteer compatible display module
  5. Posture Regulator Feedback Mechanism

Posts in these categories include:
Sensor data to the cloud, using Web services with Entity Data Model storage
Pulse Oxygenation data from Seeed .NET Gadgeteer compatible module
REST Web Service to Record Data from a .NET Gadgeteer Sensor Device
.NET Gadgeteer Potentiometer Voltage Display Graph
NeuroSky EEG data from headset sensor to PC receiver; WiFi to Web service running on .NET Gadgeteer device; Control the .NET Gadgeteer Device with Brain Waves
Maintain state in the cloud; applications can poll a Web service for state information
.NET Gadgeteer Relay Actuator via REST Web Service
Posture Regulator Feedback Mechanism
