Dear challenge organizers,

I am not the only person who is confused about the rules that apply for the conference attendance. Regarding the fact that the conference is very expensive and does not have reductions for students / student housing or available travel grants, this question probably concerns many other teams:

1. Are all team members required to register or is it enough if one team member registers for the conference?

2. Online attendance is probably a good alternative for students who can not travel to the US for financial of visa issues. What are the consequences for teams if we only register for remote attendance?

3. The conference website says poster presentations can be in/person or remotely. Talks however can only be in person. Presentation of the work is required to be published in the conference proceedings. Does this mean that challenge participants who have an oral presentation must attend in-person in order to be published while participants who present a poster can get published and attend online only?

Thanks for the clarification.
I hope this information will help other teams as well to plan their trip to Atlanta.

Best,
Charlotte

Dear Charlotte,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. These are all important questions, so thank you for asking them.

1. It’s enough if one team member registers for the conference.
2. If a team only registers for remote attendance, they can still get ranked and get a prize, but they won’t be eligible for the cash that comes with the prize.
3. Yes, it does imply that teams presenting posters can attend remotely, while teams presenting orally need to attend in person.

Best,
James
