Dear priyanka,
You have asked a flying query. There is number of methods for developments of these structures. You can google it. So first chalk out what facility you have to proceed on, if you are considering this as a phd or mtech problem. I fabricate these structures on Si substarate.

Dear All
We know that there are direct and indirect band gap materials. "Physical picture" of indirect band gap material is very much clear like that of silicon. Can anybody give a physical account of direct band gap material like GaAs (........an layman like explanation without 'omega', 'k' "gimmicks")
.

Also pls tell why a direct band gap material  is called "direct" and an indirect band gap is called "indirect"?

Directness is related to the ability of photon absorption directly by valence band electron to enter conduction band. Indirect band gap materials require phonon assisted photon absorption to achieve the same. The concept is clearly explained in  kittel's book on solid state physics
