Graphene is nothing but single layer (thickness is the size of one atom) of graphite used in pencil. It has very strange properties, very different than those of graphite, because of  very small size. The laws of the quantum mechanics dominates at this scale and you can really see the quantum world. This material is believed to create revolutionary changes in future technology so be prepared to see these changes.

Many properties of it are not understood from theories we have so it is a major challenge for condensed matter theorists.
