This group is hosted by Google Groups, and is a response to the
dispiriting state of the Usenet newsgroup sci.physics.

Not everyone, even those skilled in some part of physics, has the time
or inclination to set up a strong newsreader to extract a dwindling
signal, and no newsreader can create content where there are no
participants, most of whom will be frightened away after a few posts.
Moderated groups keep the peace, but stifle free discussion.

Anyone may read the articles posted here, but you must be a member to
post. Moderation is to be kept as laissez-faire as possible. However,
the standards of at least a licensed drinking establishment are to be
maintained: uncouth, abusive, and deliberately instigative behavior may
result in exclusion at any time, at the sole discretion of the
management.

This group is an experiment in progress: with luck, it may run the full
gamut of Utopian schemes, from irrational optimism to dissolution.
Suggestions for service improvement are welcome at any time.
