Dear friends,

Sorry for the delay to show you my daughter's wedding pictures.

My daughter Rebecca got married last Sat. (5/21). It's a small wedding at a local
    Japanese garden, Hakone Garden.

My daughter and her fiance Chris planned the wedding so I did not have
the chance to invite my friends. All the guests were almost all relatives from
both sides ( our side only has several relatives from L.A.). My daughter and her
fiance tried to cut the cost so they almost only invited relatives.

Her husband is still a graduate student at the medical school so my daughter
and her husband will move to east coast after their mini honeymoon. They met at
UC San Diego while they were students. Chris was older and with major of human
     biology at UC San Diego.

My daughter has been working for a medical doctor after she graduated from
UC San Diego's Biology major 2 years ago. My daughter will need to find a job
later to help her new family.

Her husband is a 4th generation Japanese American. But my daughter's mother-in-law
is from Taiwan about 50+ years old. We can communicate in Mandarin easily.

Rebecca's husband can speak some Mandarin due to her mother and grand mother's
      teaching of Chinese.

       May God bless you all.

Albert,

I am so happy for you.  Rebecca is your only daughter , I am sure you have mixed feelings for the wedding.  In one hand, you feel happy for her but in the other hand, you would rather she is not going to be far away...

I really like Rebecca since I met her.  She is very sweet, cute and considerate (like her father).

Congratulate!!!

Dear Albert:

Congratulations to you and Rebecca. It is a wonderful news.

I still remember the time you took me to the Stanford Univ  13 or 14 years ago, Rebecca came with us. She was so cute then, I bet she is a grown, sweet girl now.

Life now enters a new stage. Whatever it is, learn to enjoy it.

As for my elder son, it may be several years before marriage. But I can wait.

Thank you for sharing your happiness and your daughter's wedding pictures.

Rebecca is sweet and beautiful. She came to our classmate reunions to prepare the healthy potluck dishes and took the pictures for us. I am sure that you and your wife will miss her. So will we.

Dear Min-Way,

Thank you very much for your congratulations.

Yes, you came here with another Tsing Hua alumnus ( aprofessor at Chung Hsing
university) for some international conference in 1998 when our classmate Shiuh Chao
was a visiting scholar at Stanford university. We had a great classmate reunion at a
    BIG park (Vasona park) then.

Yes, we need to be thankful at our ages for God's blessings.

We are blessed by having good families, good classmates, good
friends, good children and good grand children (for Wan and Weiheng, Tao and
Pei according to my knowledge). Having good health is also very important.

         Thank you again.

Hi Albert,

Congratulation.  How lovely is the wedding.  Your daughter and son-in-law are so blessed.  Though I haven’t seen her for many years, but I remember the picture of Rebecca when she was a baby.  I also remembered a story that you told about a situation when San Francisco earth quake occurred.  A book shelf fell not far away from baby Rebecca.  It must be an angelic protection.  During the years of love and care and now she has grown up to be a lovely lady.   This is the familiar tune that we always dreamed singing when we were young.

"Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

I don't remember growing older --

When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?

When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?

Sun-rise, sun-set, sun-rise, sun-set,
Swiftly
 flow the days;
Seedlings turn overnight to sun-flow'rs,
Blossoming even as we gaze.
Sun-rise, sun-set,
sun-rise, sun-set,
Swiftly fly the years;
One season following another,
Laden with hap-pi-ness...and tears.

Now is the little boy a bridegroom,
Now is the little girl a bride;
Under the canopy I see them, side by side.
Place the gold ring upon her finger,
Drink the sweet wine and break the glass --
Soon the full circle will have come to pass.

Now we can really sing it loud.  As a father-of-bride two years ago, I share your joy and some subtle feeling which is quite described in that song.  Anyway, come to visit us when you have time to visit Pittsburg.  Drive 5 hours toward south east, and you’ll reach Philadelphia or Washinton DC.  Drive 5 hours toward west and you’ll be Dayton, OH.  Either way, you’ll be joined with friends.  Hope to see you soon.

May the grace of the Lord be always upon this lovely couple, and your family.

Lihyeh

Dear Lihyeh,

Thank you for your reply and congratulation to us.

Even we have met for almost 20 years ( you came to bay area
about 20 years ago and we had a Phys 76 dinner gathering), you still
remember well what I told you then.

Yes, during the 1989 big earthquake in San Francisco/San Jose area,
my daughter ( about 8 months old) was taken care by an old Taiwanese lady while
my wife and I worked. This old lady told me " Your baby daughter had a
great fortune. A big bookshelf fell down during the big earth quake on the bed
where your daughter was sleeping. Fallen bookshelf  was just about 1 or 2 inches away
from your baby. It was very dangerous." We thank God for HIS blessing or our
baby could be hit seriously by the big bookshelf.

We watched this beautiful " Fiddler on the roof" while we were in Tsing Hua. Later
I watched this movie few times also in U.S. at home. I understood more and more the feeling
of the father when I got older and older.

Although I am happy to see my daughter married a fine Christian young man but it's
still sad to see her away from home. My daughter is one of my best friends. We as parents
have or will experience this kind of complicated feeling. But it's good that our next generation
kids all grown up now and life continue to move on.

When our classmate Shiuh Chao visited Boston few months ago. I had a chance to
contact Hoton How and Ben-Ren Chen on behlaf of Shiuh. Shiuh and I were happy to know
Hoton How's only child, a daughter, was graduating from Harvard university and will enter
medical school this Fall. Actually Huei-Mei and Chien Chiang's daughter entered medical
        school last year also.

It seems more next generation kids are choosing medical industry for their career now.

But very suscessful companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin...etc have hired or will
hire more software people so the traditional Electrical Engineering or Computre Science major
is still a good choice. :-)

I have not seen you for about 20 years. But we saw Cou-Way and his family in year 2000.
I have seen Wei-Heng and Wan also few times since year 2003. Maybe my wife and I will
drive to your home to visit you and your wife to catch up for the past 20 years.

          May God bless you all.

          Albert Yian

Hi Albert,

You are always welcome.  I did not have many chances to go to west coast.  There are a few, but mainly are business trips and are usualy rush.  I missed you all who resides on that side of the shining sea.  However, those e-mails you sent, which are very beautiful and inspirational, always provide refreshness and add some spice in lighting my life up.

Last year, I have a chance to visit Wan and Wei-Hen, and a chance to talk to Pei-Yu and Cou-wei.  We are in fact not that far away from each other, whithin 8-10 hours of driving.  Pittsburgh is about the mid-point. Let us know when you visit, and we may arrange a samll size reunion at some where on this side of US.

God Bless,

Lihyeh

Dear Lihyeh,

Thanks to you, Wan, Wei-Heng and Cou-Way for your hospitality
to call a small Phys 76 reunion when my wife and I go to Pittsburgh to visit
our daughter's family. We will let Pei-Yu and her husband Tse-Ming (Phys 72)
know also for they live in D.C.

Hope to see you all in the near future. :-)

It's always my great pleasure to share good emails with Phys 76 and
many others worldwide. I just like to share the good things with many people
to make their lives better every day.

California is a "Golden State" for lots of sunshine. You and your family were
in L.A. while working on your PhD at USC. You know the lives in California.

When you have a chance to come to San Francisco bay area, we will definitely
have a Phys 76 reunion for you.

       Thank you again.

       Please take care.
