Thedriver supports multiple languages. After the driver installation completes, the driver language is set to the language of the client operating system.

This PCL6 driver version of the Xerox Global Print Driver uses the Windows Add Printer wizard and should be used if your security policies prohibit downloading the "Install from Web" driver package. For complete instructions, please refer to the installation guide.

We seem to be running into an issue at our facility with printers when trying to install a printer with a new driver or update an existing printer to a new driver. In this particular example I am installing a Xerox AltaLink with the GPD version. I am able to install printers with the Xerox GPD PCL 6 driver version v3.6.433.6.0.0, but if I try to update or install a printer to any other driver it gets an RPC failure and kills the print spooler. I have tried driver versions (PCL6) v5.433.6.0, v5.645.5.0, v5.733.11.0, and v5.810.8.0 and they all fail. Below is the output from trying to upgrade the driver. As a note, these machines all have the latest C++ redist. Anyone help is appreciated.

In my enviroment I have multiple workstations (win 10) with Xerox 3610 connected via Network. I am however unsure, what is best practice for Driver installation for those workstations. From my experience and websearch, it seems like the "Xerox 3610 PCL6" Driver is for implementing (generic?) PCL and the "Xerox 3610 Class Driver" is for implementing (generic?) printing for Xerox 3610 printers (or Xerox Printers in general?).

What driver am I supposed to use? Both work. However, the issue with the PCL drivers is, that it gives more freedom to the user to (mis)configure, e.g. paper trays can be selected manually and printer configuration can be (partially) overwritten. Also issues like printing speed, etc. might vary.

Class printer drivers, also known as Type 4 or v4 printer drivers, are a new driver type that was introduced in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. They are a type of "universal" driver that are included with the Windows operating systems.

Printer sharing is a key value proposition item for Windows servers. The v4 printer driver model was designed to make sharing easier and more efficient by eliminating the need to manage drivers across processor architectures.

Basically, the drivers are made to be more universal and work on both x86 (32 bit) and x86_64 (64 bit) architectures. Other advantages are enhanced compatibility with UWP apps and faster driver setup from print servers. Additionally, these drivers tend to have less features than regular drivers.

One downside is these drivers do not tend to play well with macOS. If you run a mixed environment and want Macs to print through your print server, you'll probably be better off using Type 3 print drivers.

If you use a Type 4 driver and attempt to print from macOS using LPD to a Windows print queue, the print job may fail silently. If you enable the PrintService log in Event Viewer and look in the Admin log you'll see the following error:

The easiest way to get a non-Class driver is to click "New driver..." and click the Windows Update button. Once the driver list loads, all the Class drivers should be gone. If the driver you want isn't in that list, you may have to try getting the driver from the manufacturer, although they may only provide a v4 driver.

I hope this list has given you an idea of what to look for and where to start when your printer does not print. Every situation is different so these are general things to look at or try. For more specific information search the support page for your device, contact your local support centre or post your situation on the Community Support Forum.

I have a Xerox Phaser 3215. It is connected via Wi-Fi and was working fine. All of a sudden I could no longer scan or print (wirelessly). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. The printer is discoverable (my computer sees it), but the printer will not connect.

Update 3 December 2018: So far, the furthest progress I've made has been with CraftyB's answer. Here is the output from his PowershellOutput instructions. It identified the .inf file for my printer as prnhp001.inf. I don't think this is a "default driver" as some have suspected. Also perhaps worth noting is this is purely a network printer on my home network.
