Dear Idea Exchangers,

Our new Idea Exchange member Christine Scott wants to be added to our e-mail lists.

Christine Scott (a.k.a. Luna Lake in Facebook, Christine Randolph in hotmail)
has started a Facebook group called
'Idea Exchange Continuation'
for those who would like to continue discussing the Zoom meeting topics in Facebook.
She started it, and then I supplied that name.

For our Zoom meeting 2021 Sept. 5, my topic will be something like,
'If you think I'm ugly, should I wear a swimsuit at the beach?'

Hers might be on Me-Too or the Texas abortion law.
Abortion was one of my topics in April.

Sincerely,
Korky Day

I vey much object to having our discussion shared on Facebook, among people of whom we know nothing. I don't think we should agree with any member to reprinting our discussion or our words with any sort of attribution as to the source without specific permission from the person being quoted.

What I thought Korky was saying was that the idea's discussed at the VIE Zooms could be further discussed, not that anything a specific person said at the VIE would be repeated or that messages from the VIE group would be cut and pasted.  I don't see continued discussion of a topic to be a problem but I think it would be inappropriate if it became a dissection of some specific VIE participants prior comments when they are not there as part of the discussion.

Denis, you misunderstand. Nothing is to be shared from the Zoom call. There will be no 'reprinting' or 'attribution' if you don't want. You agree, Christine, don't you? The intention is completely different than what you fear, Denis. You don't object to the e-mail discussions, do you? This is almost the same, but on a different system.

If and only if someone wants to talk more about the same topic afterward, they can do so among the members of the Facebook group who choose to talk about that topic. It's not for gossip, but for education and sharing ideas.

Do you want membership of the Facebook group restricted to people who have attended the Idea Exchange?

I must say that Korky is the one person that does go after people at the
VIE. He makes notes and then by name exploits or criticizes the person for their statements. I presume this will continue on line. I am inpartial here because I will not be involved in the discussions on line. However we already have a Idea exchange discussion group so why is this being preposed? I think it is so Kory can make rules his way. Korky is constantly challenging the rules.

Korky, I may not understand the intentions.

We already have a way to continue discussion of our Zoom conversation on tht virtual IDea exchange.
That exchange exists on a listserver with an enrolled membership controlled by one of our members AND LIMITED to members of mensa/pensa -- people we know.  The discussion is not available to anyone else.  People on our Zoom discussions appear on video and we know them.

This appears to intend to have our discussion linked in some way to other internet platforms, i.e. Facebook.  Some of us are not members of Facebook and have no desire to be members.  I myself have struggled to resign from Facebook since my son came back from a tour as a combat medevac helo pilot, having joined only because Facebook was his concection with home.  I was never successful in resigning or closing or deleting  my facebook account, but hardly ever used it since then and don't want to start.

I DO NOT WANT OUR ZOOM DISCUSSION ON ANY SYSTEMS BUT THE VIRTUAL IDEA EXCHANGE OR THE IDEA EXCHANGE.  I do not want them accessible in any form except by the participants

I do not want them on any Facebook system or anywhere where Facebook membership is required  to post or read posts.

By "do not want" I don't want to control what others do, but I will not participate in a Facebook group.   Being in a googlegroup is bad enough.

If I am misunderstandinjg how it would work, please explain it to me.

Unfortunately, I am only home from the hospita, after a week, by l one full day and will have dinner with family at 5 pm.  If I am back in time I'll join tonight's Zoom  --- I hope to.  Otherwise, Best until next time.

Nobody is trying to force anyone into anything. Whatever gave any of you that idea? Your assumptions and fears make you look irrational.

The Facebook group 'Idea Exchange Continuation' is voluntary, the same as in-person meetings are voluntary, as e-mail is voluntary, as Zoom is voluntary. Nothing extreme. Nothing scary. Very similar to e-mail, but I find the FB format easier to use. Just my preference.

Also, the FB group functions as a 'private' group. You must be admitted into it to see the content. We in it are not trying to offend anyone in their absence, any more than the e-mail exchanges offend the absent Zoomers or in-person attenders.

Denis, you wrote, 'I DO NOT WANT OUR ZOOM DISCUSSION ON ANY SYSTEMS BUT THE VIRTUAL IDEA EXCHANGE OR THE IDEA EXCHANGE.'

You mean you think that we would post Zoom video in Facebook? Why would we do that? None of us ever hinted anything like that. We wouldn't. We're nice people. You could just as easily send such videos by e-mail, but nobody seems afraid of that happening.
