Doesn't say how Phoenix (including Scottsdale and Tempe) made this list of cities that Google Fiber is investigating. (See https://fiber.google.com/newcities/#faq - "which cities are included").
But surprising that Mesa - as a Code for America host city - didn't.

It may be that Mesa, like Tucson, never applied for consideration. Not surprising that Phoenix would make the cut. Densely populated large urban population and very spotty existing infrastructure would seem to be a natural.

It'd be nice to have Fiber related to light rail-adjacent properties -- Phoenix-Tempe-Mesa spine would be great in any number of ways. I believe there's a fiber trunk line under the Union Pacific RR tracks currently . . ..
