I have been having issues trying to install Passenger on my Hostgator Level 1 VPS. When running the install script: passenger-install-apache2-module I get the error "vps memory exhausted aborting rake" on the utils.cpp file. I've tried shutting down as many of the daemons that are using memory as possible and still come across the same error. My VPS supposedly has 384mb of RAM, any idea what is required to install Passenger, or if there is a way around this issue? I've tried a yum install but I get conflicts with the version of Ruby that is available on CentOS5.9. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Matt

Your compiler needs quite some memory. Please ensure that you have enough swap space.

Thanks for the response. I looked into adding swap space but because I am using a OpenVZ based VPS adding swap space is not an option. Are there any other solutions?

- You can compile the binaries on another machine running the same
distribution, and copy the binaries over.
- You can use the RPMs. They're linked from the download page and from
the manual.
- You can build the RPMs yourself on another machine, and then install
the RPMs on your server.
