jumping to a new line after spellcheck

after a spell check is performed, specifically an in-line spellcheck the cursor jumps to a new line in the textarea or input field. Why is this?

this happens in internet explorer.

I've had a similar issue in IE8 where after pressing a navigation key (end, page up, arrow key etc.), it will cause the cursor to jump to the start of the line when you type, making it hard to use the text area.
