Will this work on a Rasberry Pi with 3000 + photos?

I tried another java photo slider on a Raspberry Pi, wrapped with PHP to find all photos in a given directory and JS to auto slide all the photos and the Pi just hung - Too many files I guess
Can the slide be randomized so out of the 3000 photo they are show randomly instead of the 1 the 2 the 3 ....
