Click the [Upgrade] button to log in and visit the upgrade center. When the scanner first visits the upgrade center, the registration step will be prompted. Submit your email and UID displayed on the iCarsoft screen to complete the registration.
If the application iCarsoft_MSDIAG_PCClientKits has a new version in the upgrade center, the application upgrade is prompted, choose [YES] to download the newer version and then to install automatically.
a quick google tells me this is a known issue, but more recent searches tell me it can be fixed with recent updates. So I downloaded the update tool for icarsoft and registered the device and yeah the are updates for it, however I cannot perform the upgrade with an error serial port initialisation fails.
I suspect it is somehing to do with the configuration of the laptop you are using to update the iCarsoft. I remember having an i910 for my daughter's old BMW, and it was a bit fiddly getting the update software to communicate with the iCarsoft.
It won't read all the 986's functions and it will not reset airbags. Only a few. Or at least the one I used last night would not. I also have a Durametric, and a wireless cheapie, but was at a friends house looking at his 964 and 986 and he mentioned he had one so I tried it.
I've got the iCarsoft POR2 and never got it to reset the airbag. I haven't updated it for a couple of years now, but don't hold out much hope for it. One thing I will say is that the 986 uses some controllers from a 993 so it's worth checking anything that doesn't work by selecting a 993 (or 964) instead of 986. Also worth trying the 996 while you are at it! To be honest I think it's a great piece of kit for 9x7 or later, but not so for a 986. I keep meaning to put mine up for sale as it's in as new condition. In fact I'll do it later today.

Having never conquered how to use the computer for it and the JLR SDD/IDS software I bought. I am wondering how detailed and efficient you find the Icarsoft CR PRO. Reading latest listings for them I am not so sure they cover all manufacturers and have lifetime updates. The companies website seems to be quoting limited manufacturers and the update is to be purchase for given number of years at extra costs.
Ive had mine icarsoft CR Pro about a year and half, it covers all manufacturers and it came with lifetime up dates, you just remove the sd card, plug it into your pc and run the iCarsoft MSDIAG PCClientKits and it updates.
I think I will invest in one of these. Since I bought the plug in SDD diagnostics and the Laptop Widows XP to run it, I have never conquered the what I consider complicated technology of getting to use it.
Bought the iCarsoft PRO, but still find it very challenging to use. At 72 I am not "over tech gifted" and am finding the User manual I had to print from the internet is not really that helpful to me.
Can read deeper into P0420 that my Foseal Diagnostic did, but cannot understand such things as live "% efficiency readings" from upstream and downstream Lambdas. Yes it gives the readings and that is OK if you understand what they are meaning.
I still get intermittent P0420 codes, despite having replaced each and every part of the Bank 1 induction system and exhaust system, and cannot understand why/how these intermittent codes keep occurring. Manifold Gaskets (6), plugs, coils, up and down stream Lambdas, Catalytic Converter (which was killed by misfiring), checked all joints for leaks. All replacement parts as OE.
