Aloha,

I wanted to hear if there is some interest in an implementors summit.

The idea would be to invite all projects interested in integrating PHPCR and to provide them with some introductions into PHPCR, current implementations and how to port their current codebase to using PHPCR. Note of course projects would also be welcome that are just looking to evaluate the feasibility of such a migration.

So as a tentative agenda I would see presentations like the following:
- introduction to PHPCR
- introduction to PHPCR ODM
- introduction to Jackalope codebase
- introduction to Midgard CR codebase

Aside from this we would try to organize hacking sessions:
- improving Jackalope codebase
- improving Midgard CR codebase
- hack sessions for specific frameworks/applications

As the number of PHPCR experts around the world is still somewhat limited we would have to see that we would get most of them to show up. It obviously also depends on who many projects are interested.

Right now I would be hoping we could at least get people from the following projects:
- Drupal
- ezPublish
- TYPO3
- Nooku
- Magento

I would also like to check if some companies would be interested to send developers:
- 10gen to work on MongoDB compatibility
- Microsoft to work on support for SQL Server and SQL Azure Database
- Couchbase to work on support for Couchbase
- Adobe to work on improving support for Jackrabbit
- RedHat to work on support for ModeShape

Of course also anyone else interested in PHPCR would be come to attend.

I am really not sure if we can pull this off logistically and I am just trying to get an idea if there is interest at all to see if I should proceed in trying to make this happen.

regards,
Lukas Kahwe Smith

Speaking of logistics: This summit would definitely need to happen in Europe, most likely in Switzerland.

Hi Lukas

I am interested to attend (with some eZ Publish community hat)

Do you have a rough time window in mind for this summit?

Kind regards
Paul

No, its totally up in the air depending on feedback. Right now I am just checking with this list. I would hope for something to happen in spring.
One option I have been pondering if there is interest but not enough to organize such a summit is to do something smaller at FOSDEM.

FOSDEM sounds fairly good as well, I am attending there in any case
Maybe you can convince them to add a dedicated dev-room, or hitch-hike
on an existing one?

Kind regards
Paul

There will be a PHP dev room, so I think that should work out if needed.
I am also planning to attend FOSDEM, so independent of a PHPCR summit, people can expect to have me around to discuss PHPCR topics.

so is there some need for another meeting outside FOSDEM or do we want
to wait and see what comes out of the FOSDEM meeting and decide if we
need a dedicated meeting?

cheers,david

ok lets do this at FOSDEM then. i have never been to FOSDEM but i would assume there would be space to get a half dozen people to sit around and hack together?

just got the confirmation that I'll be at FOSDEM, so I'll certainly be available for some talking and hacking. I'll check if Karsten can join as well.

Cheers,
Robert

Johan from Nooku has also confirmed. Hoping that someone from Drupal will also join. And I assume Bergie will also be there?

So the plan is to grab a table, I will bring a monitor and then we can sit together, discuss and hack for a bit. I have a presentation at 16:00, so I would say maybe lets meet after lunch and plan to talk for 2-3 hours?

OK, my plan is to meet right around 13:00 tomorrow. I hope to see many of you there!

Once I have confirmed a location etc, I will probably tweet it out using the hashtags #fosdem and #phpcr

regards,
Lukas

Just FYI .. in the end we were Robert and Karsten from TYPO3, Patrick from ezPublish, Johan from Nooku (Joomla founder) and myself. We talked a bit about PHPCR and a lot more about the challenges of bringing good design practices to the masses. So while we didnt do to much i nregards to PHPCR specifically, I think it was great to have a few more people within the CMS community having met each other and discussing common problems.

regards,
Lukas

Was great to meet everyone. Didn't had a chance to discuss PHPCR in detail, was more a meet and greet. Definitely interested to learn more about PHPCR though, maybe a hackathon ?

Cheers,

Johan

sure, i would be motivated to participate in a hackathon!

when and where? assuming we will not be more than half a dozen of
developpers, liip could provide a room in zurich if that helps.

and what exactly would be the goals of the hackathon? see how it would
work as storage layer for the various cms implementations? try out
doctrine phpcr-odm maybe?

cheers,david
