Senior Developer Job Description – Zeco Energy

Excellent opportunity for a Senior Developer to join a technology-centric company in Newcastle upon Tyne. You will be joining a team in an influential role to help drive the core product forward and be part of a very exciting period of growth in this young, fast-growing business.

Zeco Energy is a venture-backed company in the energy management sector, and we’re beginning to scale our systems and expand our product portfolio. We work with a portfolio of companies and hardware providers, with some great blue chip clients already on our side.

You'll be genuinely excited by technology, creating effective solutions and turning data into useful business information. Experience of working in an agile environment with SCRUM or KANBAN would be beneficial. You’ll need an advanced working knowledge of MySQL and modern web technologies especially PHP and Javascript. Experience working with cloud technologies, and a solid grasp of how to best exploit these architecturally, would be strongly favored. Knowledge of, and any experience in, embedded programming would be advantageous. No specialist knowledge of the energy market is required, but some knowledge of the terminology would be ideal. A model candidate will have strong working experience with PHP with a willingness to learn new languages and technologies and working operational experience with Amazon Web Services.

Essential skills

You must be able to demonstrate exceptional technical skills and knowledge within:

· PHP 5.6
· Laravel 5 / Lumen
· MySQL
· Javascript
· MVC Frameworks
· RESTful architecture
· GIT
· Strong understanding of object oriented programming
· A working understanding of AngularJS
· HTML5 and a compression of feature sniffing
· CSS3
· 3-5+ years' software development experience
Architechting, building and maintaining complex software applications
· Understanding of relational database architecture and the major do's/don'ts
· Experience of continuous integration
· Strong debugging skills
· Experience in Linux server administration
· Knowledge of database performance optimisation
· Experience of unit testing, preferably test driven development

Daily activities

· Developing new solutions and products to specifications
· Supporting existing platforms and products (Adobe Coldfusion)
· Identifying areas for improvement within the current architecture
· Contributing to the development of architectural changes
· Supporting existing team members in their day to day tasks
· Developing junior members of the team
· Communicating progress to management
