Change Marker Options without refresh

Working on converting my flash app to php using this class.  All is well now, but wondered if anyone has worked out a way to just change the marker options without a refresh similar to how you would do it if you used the raw maps api.  I was hoping to have a timer that gets the data from mysql like it does on load and just update positions of my markers.  It saves on hits to the api and you do not have to always do map refreshs.  Atleast thats how I found it worked with the flash api.

Also still looking for ways to make custom markers with text overlays or labels that are always visible.

Any guidance is appreciated.
