//PHP Fundamentals// is an online educational teaching website intended to provide courses that will train a PHP developer in all the key skills required to be a professional developer. Our courses do not cover the syntax of the language itself as we believe this is already well covered. //PHP Fundamentals// instead covers the processes and skills required develop a project from initial conception through development, deployment and maintenance.

//PHP Fundamentals// delivers its content via three levels of online course known as **PHP Fundamentals 1**, **PHP Fundamentals 2** and **PHP Fundamentals 3** which are progressively harder as each level builds upon the skills learnt in the previous one.

- Within a level, there are a number of courses and each course contains a number of topics.
+ Within a level, there are a number of modules and each module contains a number of topics.

===== How? =====
//PHP Fundamentals// is a website at www.phpfundamentals.org which freely provides the course material and also a mechanism for a student to track their progress and provide evidence of implementation of course material in their development lives. It is intended that in order to pass a level, then independent assessment of the evidence will be required.

These are the key tenets of how we will do this:

* All our content will be freely available
- * There is no requirement to be assessed and 'pass' the course
+ * There is no requirement to sit or register for the course in order to use the course documents
* However, we will try to educate bosses so that they ask for assessment

===== Why? =====
The //PHP Fundamentals// group believes that professional development is more than the ability to write good code. this training course was created to provide good, clear and correct information on the other requirements of professional development and we hope will help to improve the status and professionalism of our industry.

===== The Future? =====
In the long term, we'd like to see the courses affiliated with a professional certification system, such as the NVQ people. We'd also like to see //PHP Fundamentals// levels being a requirement being asked for by employers and related to that, we'd like to see employers insisting that their employees work towards their next //PHP Fundamentals// level as part of their job and career advancement.
