date in php-excel-reader2 generates warning message

Warning: date(): Invalid date.timezone value 'America/NewYork', we selected the timezone 'UTC' for now. in /home1/poosungc/public_html/excel_reader2.php on line 1634

Date entered "2016-12-15"

Column defined as either date, or

as varchar(10), This still take the column as date and issues warning.

If possible, correct it or, at least, kill the warning messages, as long as the processing is correct.
