Been a while since this group saw much discussion. The dates for
ZendCon have been nailed down since, October 19-22, which I know some
people were waiting for. Are we waiting for any other events to lock
in dates before doing so ourselves?

I'm not sure if it was formally decided upon or not, but it seemed
like most people were gravitating toward using the Beast again. I
think the internet issue can be resolved without switching venues.
While it's not as close to town as some others, it's not very far and
will allow us to include the larger number of people for the cost.

It's now about 3-4 months out from the rough time period we
established, which means we should probably look at making
reservations soon if we're going to do this.

Thoughts?

I spoke to Ben Ramsey about this the other day as a matter of fact, from my understanding we are now at a position to where we need to chose the dates but that choice needs to be made with some consideration.  Eli Recently announced the dates for ZendCon so now the other conference we should take into account would be PHP|Works presuming MTA is still planning on hosting it this year.  With all that being considered I also want to push another quick idea into the mix, during one of his visits to ##php I spoke to Rasmus who had made a point in stating that he was a big fan of conferences that were considered out of the way and not generally large, I asked him why he didn't attend PHPApp last year and he stated that it resulted in a scheduling conflict.  I know that valuing one member of the community over others is wrong, but perhaps someone should contact Rasmus and see what would be a good time so that we can make it possible for him to attend as well.

Let's put it to a simple vote:

1. Find three weekends in the fall that are open, present them;
2. Anyone who pays a deposit ($100?) is allowed to vote;
3. Once a date is picked, the cabin can be booked immediately;
4. Voters (aka people who paid) get first dibs on spots;

If a different weekend ends up winning, you can get your deposit back.

It should keep us from pandering to anyone who "might" attend and focus
on people who make it happen.

We need to figure out who's keeping up with the deposit money. :-)

Since php|tek is only one week away, I planned on syncing up with Keith
during the week and making a plan.

Dion Lewis has also volunteered to design a new site for PHP Appalachia,
and I'm waiting for him to finish.

I agree with Ben about this, unfortunately I wont be attending |tek, but it'll be easier for everyone to get together in person and sit down and discuss it for a few minutes instead of making generalizations and guesses and trying to keep up with emails now.

Also, by that time we'll hopefully have more details about the MTA fall conference worked out.

Cheers!
