Chlorophyll and photosynthetic activity can be a marker for many
things - even disease (article shared from Theresa Bernardo) -

This is satellite based, but what kind of activities may relate to
photosynthesis at a local level which we could use with Photosynq?

I'd be curious to see how the Photosynq device could work in conjunction with the Public Labs IR camera (attached to the mapping balloon and taking timelapse photos) and spectrometer (for specific baseline samples). This may give an interesting way to explore photosynthesis in a new way for the citizen scientist. Thoughts?

We'll be taking GPS data as well so I'm sure it would be relatively easy to overlay our single data points with theirs.

Bryan have you used their balloon mapping plus IR on your fields?  If so what did you think?

I'll see Jeff Warren from public labs at the open hardware conference so I'll ask him about it.

Unfortunately not yet...I only recently discovered them online and have been looking into their product offerings. Then it struck me that they could easily integrate the IR camera with the balloon mapping to add a whole new dimension to their mapping efforts. As soon as we move our office (in a couple of weeks), I will look into buying some goodies from them and build a rig that can hold both the mapping and IR cameras at the same time to see what we can come up with.
