Voice Over periodically causes program to freeze

I'm doing a lot of voice overs at present. Every dozen or so times,
when I click to stop the recording, the sound level remains elevted and
the program freezes. I have to control-alt-delete and restart the
program. Anyone have a similar problem or cure?
