Ok, so what do you want to see happen at PhotoCampMilwaukee? Sessions,
shoots, walks, shows?

These are a few ideas I had:

HDR (software and techniques used...)
Strobist stuff (equipment, techniques...)
Photowalks (what are they, how to do one, etc.)
Sharing (online, Flickr, etc... prints? books? other things?)
Ownership (copyright, All rights reserved, Creative Commons, public
domain...)
Point and Shoot (doing the best with non-SLR gear)
So you want to be a Professional Photographer?
Portraits (Shoot people!)
DIY - Super Cheap Equipment!

Got some thoughts? Post them here...

Software: firmware for your camera; naming and organizing schemes and
tools; image manipulation software (especially FOSS like GIMP or free
like IrfanView) and image manipulation webware (picnik.com,
fotoflexer.com, snapmania.com's "Tourist Remover",
reshade.com/online-image-resizer, and even rsizr.com's seam carving)

I would like to see some film workshops as well. I really, very much, pretty please want someone to do a pinhole camera workshop. Does anyone know anyone who does that?

Night time photography--both strobist and nonstrobist

Photo management software--differences between Lightroom and Capture and anything else out there

Ooh, ooh -- pinhole camera! (Sorry, I don't know anything about doing
it, but I'm fascinated by the topic.) OR it could be expanded or
paired with an "archeophotography" topic, adding primitive lenses and
the sunlight-on-sensitive-paper stuff.

Just last week, I was running ethernet through our return-air vents
and got a pinhole camera effect, with a view of my basement projected
on the inside of the duct.

How about sessions such as:

Raw Converter software comparison (I just started a review on my
blog: http://mydailywanderings.blogspot.com/)
Workflow examples (asset management, import, processing, export and
printing)

Just some more thoughts.

I'd definitely like the idea of something on DAM Workflow and
compare/contrast of DAM software (Lightroom/Aperture/Expression Media/etc.)

I'd love to be part of a session about studio portraiture. Seriously.
MC and I have to do these at work -- actually, MC does, but we'd love
some pro-tips. We could theoretically bring in our kit. Someone remind
me to be sure to get him to put this even on his radar.

This is a non-professional speaking, but I think an LOLcats session
would be fun.

I'd also be interested in intimate photography. Robert Maplethorpe
obviously comes to mind, but I'm also thinking things slightly tamer.
I'm not so much interested in it from the standpoint of selling sexy
photos, but it has proven to be a fun bonding activity. I don't
really have ideas on how it would be done. Obviously it's a touchy
(no pun intended, but it's a good one, no?) subject. I'm thinking a
discussion and maybe techniques if anybody really knows what they are
doing.

Rachel, yeah, any place that has *anything* to do with photographs is
a potential. Add the names to our list on the spreadsheet.

I'm not sure if you organizers have any plans, but it might be nice to
have a Google Doc/Spreadsheet setup to list these topics. That way we
can keep track of them, minimize duplicates, and maybe spark new
ideas.

Also would be helpful to begin gathering information as the event gets
closer.

Also, since we're all CreativeCommons lovers, how bout a wiki? That
might be even easier to deal with than a Google Doc/Spreadsheet, and
it allows for better document design.

Just thoughts.

CHDK is awesome. It can go under Point and Shoot or I can do a
separate presentation on that. I'm also a fan of macro and long
exposure.

I'd like to see presentations on advanced tricks and techniques for
SLRs too.

As a parent with school aged kids, a lot of people I've been talking
to about the camp are in the same boat. One session idea is how to
take photographs with your kids, or how to get them involved in
photography.

Hi:

I'm speaking up for the first time. Scott Feldstein suggested to me yesterday that I throw some ideas out there and perhaps volunteer to give a talk.  I'd like to talk about how to strictly approach photography artistically. I think many people get intimidated by the equipment and the technology.

I am also started to freelance with children's photography. I've also batted around the idea of doing a seminar just for kids about how to start with photography.

My long winded answer is, I think getting kids involed would be a great idea, and I'm up for helping with that.

(Just by way of background, I've been published a couple of times and have exhibited at gallery night. My flickr stream is here http://flickr.com/photos/nicole719/)

I definitely plan on having my kids come down for part of the camp. The
only Cream City Photowalk I've been able to attend was with my 6yr old in
tow. He uses an old Canon Digital Elph that I could care less if he breaks.

For the record, my six year old can wield my 20D w/grip and a 50mm f/1.2L (my heaviest current lens) pretty well. I have to take the drive off continuous as he brings new meaning to the term “spray and pray.”  Even more so if I’ve got strobes hooked up to it as he’ll shoot way beyond the recycle time so over half the frames are black.

Still, I’m a huge believer in teaching them even the basics, simple stuff like how to even hold the camera.

Why not? Cameras are awesome! I spent a lot of time with film
cameras and darkrooms back in the day and might haul in some BW film
and paper for a demo if anyone has other dark room equipment to make a
dark room happen at Bucketworks. Most of those skills are useless
nowadays, but they're still fun and educational.

Would anyone be interested in a presentation on physics/light? I
taught 6th-12th grade physics/general science for a while so it's sort
of up my alley :) I think it ties in well with the explanation of the
inner workings of a camera/settings so whoever is doing that should
drop me a line.

Hey, do we know anyone who would like to do a session on photographer's rights?  I would really like to learn that I CAN tell the mall cop to shove it when he comes to grab my camera...  And what are the rules about having recognizable people in your photos and getting model releases?  Inquiring minds want to know.

Photographer's Rights would be a great session!

I plan to talk about Creative Commons licensing, and the rights a
photographer has under those... (and if there are people who know more
about copyright/media law than I do, please speak up!)

Perhaps Mr. James can be pestered to bring in a lawyer who might be
willing to talk on IP issues.
I could work something up, but it wouldn't have the advantage of ...
you know... possibly being accurate.

Otherwise, I could _lead_ a discussion on -what you think you know--
about your rights.
