Stories as an Optometrist in the Army
I spent nearly 10 years in the US Army, as an optometrist, from 1977 to 1987.
These stories have nothing to do with Optical Maintenance, or even the practice of Optometry.
They were just experiences I had as an Army Optometrist.
After 5 years in the Army, I went to the Officer's Advanced Course (in San Antonio, Texas).
One of the projects in the Advanced Course was writing a "Leadership" paper. I chose to write about the clinic chief I had in my first few years in the Army ("Advanced course, leadership paper, October 1982").
I was told, in advance, to change all the names and locations, so it could not be traced.
So I assigned names to the characters, such as Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.
and I assigned names to the locations, such as Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, etc.
The second story, I just wrote (2015) to clarify in Optometry terms, what was going on at my first Army Optometry assignment. This narrative clarifies the type of optometry tests done (and not done) on patients in the various clinics.
The third story ("The Missing Ring") recounted a most unusual experience I had while serving overnight as AOD (Administrative Officer of the Day) during my 6th year in the Army.
