Client-side databases

Hi, I am creating my first web application on the iPhone, and I want
it to be able to function offline. I have been reading about webkit
client-side databases. Can anyone provide some sample code, and how to
read the data from the database into the HTML file, and how to update
the data in the database. I have looked at Apple's documentation but
didn't find it detailed enough to what I am looking for. Can someone
provide some sample code to check for internet connection? I am novice
when it comes to javascript, so helpful pointers will be very much
appreciated.
