Can anyone explain to me why I need to install awv_interface.jar from the Amazon Webview SDK as set out in the Amazon Platform Guide 3.3.0 documentation?  Is it only needed if I want to put a Cordova WebView into an Amazon Fire OS project?

I added the various Kindle files to the collection in Android SDK manager including the Kindle USB driver.  With the device connected, my app loads and runs just fine on the Kindle.  I made no changes.  Not using embedded WebViews.

Did you ever find a good answer to this? I'm thankful for your post because I was able to deploy to my Kindle Fire because of it, but it's not clear what the advantage is.

Hi, Herb

First of all, thank you for developing and submitting apps to Kindle platform.
You need awv_interface.jar to build a cordova app for amazon-fireos platform. That gives you Chromium  webapp runtime. If you have build apps for android platform, you will only get stock android webview to render html contents. While building for amazon-fireos platform gives you AmazonWebView which has many optimizations done for Kindle Fire platform. awv_interface.jar is needed for AmazonWebView to compile.

Hope this helps.
