Hi,

are these docs open sourced? Is it possible to contribute to them? E.g. "Getting started with iOS" guide for 2.2.0 could be simplified a bit (especially the "Install CordovaLib" part).

Hi Szymon,
Thanks for thinking of contributing. Please fork https://github.com/apache/incubator-cordova-docs and send a pull request. Much appreciated!

Just an FYI that I am working on rewriting the Getting Started for iOS docs for a class I am taking.   Final draft is due in the class by Dec. 7 - I hope to post a first draft for review by this community (in a location OTHER than docs.phonegap.com) during the week of Nov.  19.

Thanks for letting me know! I'll wait for you draft then :)

It will actually have more details, not less so it may not be the type of edits you are looking for.  It is aimed at the first time user who might not be familiar with xcode yet ;-)

It's fine. I've never developed any app for iOS and Android before, so a more detailed guide will be really helpful. However, I find developing Cordova app for iOS much easier than for Android :)

My main concern regarding the iOS guide was that it first tells you to download Apache Cordova via a link that actually points to PhoneGap page, without any explanation that PhoneGap is (at least for now) just a distribution of Cordova. In the next section it tells you to "Download Cordova source", though you've just downloaded Cordova/PhoneGap in the previous step. Then at the very end of the next section, it tells you that "Starting with Cordova 2.2, the project will have a copy of CordovaLib within it (...)" These are the parts that I wanted to clarify.

Yeah - that would be nice to clarify ... since currently, it's confusing the hell out of me .... Any clarity right now would be appreciated.  Which do I download?  One, both ... why?   They have different things in them.

Not really - thanks .... Still doesn't answer the question of the two different installs and which is which, and which to get ... There's PhoneGap, and then there's the Starter Guide on that very same page which tells you to download Cordova ...

PhoneGap is a binary distribution of Apache Cordova. Apache only does source releases. It is much easier just to go to phonegap.com and click the download link in the top right corner. That should give you everything you need to get started.

OK thanks -- so why does their own "getting started" guide say differently?  The Getting Started guide also mentions having to run a "create" script to start a new project that's only available in the Cordova distribution...

I've attached a draft version of a more detailed getting started guide for iOS here:   https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/phonegap/36eXgx2LrNI.  I'd be happy to get feedback!

thanks,
