Barcode scanner (or other solution) to scan ID cards?

Hello, 

Can the Barcode Scanner scan and recognize an Identity Card? Like a drivers license or even a business card? 

I'm looking for a solution that can recognize an ID card so that the image can be saved and later uploaded to a server via a REST API. 

I know Card.io has this solution for credit cards and Lemon Wallet uses Card.io for it's ID recognition. 

Has anyone tried to accomplish this?

1) the barcode scanner scans barcodes (unless the ID has a barcode it will not scan it)

2) if you need to upload the image of the ID card, no recognition needs to happen on the device.
