Any plans to add Kindle as a supported platform?

I'm still waiting to see if I can get in on the KDK beta, but based on
the fact that the latest Kindles have an (albeit experimental) webkit-
based browser it's not unimaginable that it could host a phongap-style
harness for web apps.

The principle seems sound technologically - but I have no idea what the
hardware specs inside a Kindle are like for available RAM, etc.

Aside: I'd love to see how "your average app" responds to a Kindle
without a touchscreen and a frame rate of 0.4ish-FPS :)

Yeah, it would definitely be a different environment from the ones
we're all used to, and designing for the Kindle would be the starting
point since it would be the most limited platform...

...I'm curious though because I've been working on a new app that I
had expected to target the iPad, but would definitely be aimed
squarely at the same market as Kindle-type users. Of course, I'd
rather not limit the app to that platform and honestly I'd rather
build it using web standards than learning (yet another) native
framework, setup another build environment, etc.

Also if the KDK eventually supports the Kindle reader on all its
platforms then there would be less of a need to release "native"
versions of the apps, but at least at the moment it doesn't look like
the KDK will be supporting the Kindle reader "apps" anytime soon.

I would definitly see potential in releasing the app i'm currently working on as a kindle app.
Though, i don't know if phonegap is the right framework use for that.

The name already states that it's for phones.

Also i think phonegap should first support the big phone os's before going for the kindle.

Greets,
Erik

It does have the same os as the phone though ;).
And it actually is a phone. Just a bit bigger.

Just compare it with the iPhone 3g ;).

We've had the sdk and explored it. Nothing came of it.

Sharzron, what do you mean by "nothing came of it"?

Care to share any details?

Thanks!

Well, I believe I am still under NDA so no details, I'm afraid.

But in general, for a platform to be supported, we need access to the underlying browser component. If we don't have access to the underlying browser component (like UIWebview on iOS for example) - we can't write PhoneGap for it.
