Don't know about 0.9.5 (will try ASAP), but there are basically two
workarounds when using 0.9.4:

- modify the phonegap code a bit in your project as described in
http://remysharp.com/2010/08/30/universal-launch-images-with-phonegap/
- in a prev. discussion someone mentioned that is probably not
integrated into the core since it requires the same image to be used
regardless of orientation (i have not looked at the details)

- if an iPad project, use a transparent image (the iPhone one,
Default.png, that is shown for a split second even on the iPad) in
addition to the two Default-Landscape.png and Default-Portrait.png
files for the respective orientations

Still appears to be misbehaving in .9.5

On the ipad, the ipad splash appears correctly. Then Default.png
shows (or a blank image or a white flash, depending on if you modified
or deleted Default.png).

There was a lengthy thread a while back about this with some
resolution near the end. I thought the solution was going to be
rolled into 0.9.5. I'll have to find it again and see if I can make
it work in my project.

What approach is recommended for a universal iPad / iPhone app?

Do any of the techniques that have been discussed actually provide a
stable splash screen for each intended platform / orientation?

Thanks for any help.

Like I wrote in another thread about this the solution by Remy Sharp
(linked above) fixed it for me across iPhone 3/4 and iPad.

There is no flashing or artefacts going on when the app starts, check
it out in the app store (Orbium).

The only issue with it I can imagine is that it doesnt support
different splash screens for user starting in landscape and portrait,
but I think for most apps that is not necessary anyway.

Thanks for you input. How did you deal the the flashing on iPad in
Landscape?

The RemySharp solution solves the loading of 2 splash screens, but I'm
having another splash issue. I don't know if this is what Kurt is
referring to.

If you set a portrait orientation as the first entry in "Supported
Interface Orientations" in info.plist - then start the ipad simulator
in landscape mode, it will briefly re-orient to portrait mode and then
back again. At first I thought it was a bright flash, but after
watching enough times figured it out.

If you set a landscape orientation as the first entry in "Supported
Interface Orientations" then this flashing occurs when the simulator
is started in portrait orientation.

I don't have an iPad, and was wondering if anyone knew if this only
happens on the simulator or if it also happens on the device?
Obviously the device wouldn't physically rotate back and forth like
the simulator, but I'm wondering if the same bright flash occurs?

Thanks.
