I can access my gmail account emails on the apple mail but after reading them I noticed that when I log into my one of my gmail accounts on my computer the emails that I previously read on my iphone with new IOS 16 are not marked as read but rather as unread. There is a synching issue between gmail and apple after this new IOS 16 release that is not sending the notification to the gmail servers that the emails have been read on iphone. Anyone have a solution for this?

So, I went into gmail on Safari, on a computer, went to settings and turns out the POP transfer was turned off there, not on the iPhone. I also do not know how it got turned off since I don't go around changing my gmail settings but maybe it will help some of you to check this.

Same problem here with one interesting note. Mail on IOS set up with 2 Gmail accounts. One works fine! The other will not mark as read on Gmail after being read or deleted in Mail on IOS. Emails marked read or deleted in Gmail are marked read or deleted in Mail on IOS. All began with IOS 16. Now using IOS 16.3.1 with no fix.

I had this problem too... And up until this problem started happening a little bit ago I've realized that people also have not been getting my emails that I've sent from my iPhone 14, even though they all appear to have sent. Tried it on my computer, and they were able to confirm they received it that time. Also, when I deleted the account off my phone and then added it back, I had apparently 70 (I get a lot of emails) unread and somehow back in my inbox after having already viewed them, replied to some of them (which appeared to have sent but didn't), and filed them the way I wanted them, all over again. But I believe after doing that, we're back to normal. Thank goodness somebody already had this question answered or I could have been looking at a much bigger problem!

I see other people with the same problem. I read gmail messages on my iPhone and delete them and on my computer they are all showing up unread. It's making me crazy to have to go into my computer to delete everything.

Same issue with iphone and computer not syncing my gmail account. Tried the fix you suggested to no avail. Called Apple and they said to call google. I also believe it is an issue that started with IOS 16 update. Thanks Apple for the help!

I am having the same issue. I have tried all sorts of suggested solutions that I found online, but nothing has worked. My work account is syncing properly, but nothing I read and/or delete on my phone from my personal account is showing as read on my computer. It is syncing just fine in the other direction- everything I read and delete on my computer shows as read or does get deleted on my phone.

I HOPE someone sees these posts and fixes our issue! Mine is the same - one gmail account works fine with my iPhone syncing with my computer and the other account does not sync at all. So every night I'm deleting tons of messages that I already read and deleted on my phone.

Tonight I got the idea to forward my messages from my gmail account that is not syncing to the account that is syncing. IT WORKED! So now at least when I do things on my iPhone it syncs to my computer and it's less work. If you can't forward to your work gmail - maybe try setting up a new gmail account and forward the account that's not syncing to a new account to see if that works.

Same issue here. Works fine with 3 of my emails but a fourth email account (all gmail based) won't show my messages as read if I read them on my iPhone first. Very frustrating. Tried deleting the account on my MacBook Pro and re-adding it and that did not help at all. Also rebooted both devices. Still an issue.

I'm having the same issue. Thought I was going crazy because up until a couple days ago everything was working great. Also, when I read my emails on my laptop, they appear as "read" on my iPhone. But the reverse is not true. When I read them on my iPhone, they are showing up as "unread" on my laptop.

I had the same issue where when gmail showed "read" on my iPhone, it showed as unread on laptop (over 100 emails were marked as unread). Running iOs 16.3.1 on iPhone and on macOS Ventura 13.2.1 on MacBook Pro. I deleted the gmail account from my iPhone and re-added it, and now it's syncing! :)

I experienced the same thing. It was happening on devices, apps, and when I'd log in to GMail via a browser. I deleted my GMail account from all of my devices (phone, Mac Mini, iPads), reinstalled it and everything seems to be sync'd up. Hope that helps someone.

I went into the gmail app in my iphone and ipad and updated the gmail app. then I went into each and went to settings > the account > notifications > switch to None then back to All new mail > backed out then to Notification Sound updated to Welcome for both devices > backed out and closed the app.

from what I was reading on other sites the Gmail tone Classic (which my ipad defaulted to) is no longer working, so I think doing a quick reset of my notifications to off then back on and selecting a tone of anything but Classic (which only shows on my ipad and not on my iphone as an option), and it worked like a gem!

Thanks, but I've tried all of that and nothing worked. I talked to Apple Support last night and they couldn't fix it either, unless I waste all of my data and have the other notifications all over my phone that I do not want and never had to use. It's a shame that now the phone will not notify me of my emails and Apple can't do a thing to help.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're no longer seeing notifications for the Gmail app on your iPhone. You've done a great job trying to get this resolved so far. We're happy to help.

I did a full factory reset and when it had finished I downloaded and installed only the Gmail app from the App Store. Other than the regular programs that load automatically when you do a full reset, this was the only 1 on there that was outside the basic app installs you get when you first activate your phone. It still happened.

Same problem for me as well although at some point over the weekend, there were badges showing in my Gmail app but once I checked the email and cleared the badges, they haven't shown back up since. I just updated to IOS 15.4 and that hasn't seemed to fix the problem either. Not sure at this point if it is a Gmail app issue or Iphone/IOS issue.

Just thought I'd add to the growing list of people posting about this. The problem started happening for me today, too. I've removed email accounts, added them back. That did not work. I've reinstalled the app. That did not work. I've done toggling of the badge setting. That did not work. I see no point in going through a factory reset, since others have tried it to no avail. I hope this gets fixed ASAP.

Hi everyone. Let me add to that list. As of today, the Gmail app badges also stopped working for me. Without any reason, without me doing anything. I had updated iOS a couple of days ago and it worked perfectly normal over the last days, so I'm pretty sure it's not the new iOS to blame, but the Gmail app itself. Have tried everything: logged out/in, removed/reinstalled the app, toggled the badge notification button, nothing works. But if I open the app, it's instantly loading new emails. If I don't open them and exit the app, then the badge will be displayed. So it's very clear an issue with the Gmail app.

Coming back to my comment from yesterday. Today the badge started to reappear, but in a very random way. Sometimes it works, then again it's no longer working. There doesn't seem to be any pattern. It's definitely an issue with the Gmail app, not with the iOS. I strongly advise you to use the feedback button from the app and give feedback to the developer. The more the merrier :)

I set up a new 12 year old w/ a google account, including gmail. It works fine. However, when I add the gmail to the iphone, it will not receive emails. The email works fine on the web, and the icloud email work, but not the gmail. I thought it was maybe a privacy issue on Google, but cannot find any toggle that seems to work

I have spent several hours with Apple support to try to resolve the same issue for my son. Eventually somebody who knows at Apple explained that this is a Google restriction. Gmail restricts access to their email for anybody under 13 years old. Which explains the problem. It is not an Apple restriction or problem. The workaround is to download the gmail app and your child can access his/her emails through that.

I Used a workaround and highlighted the text of the email, selected all, and then chose the "share" option, which gave me several options in terms of sending it out. I sent it to myself as a message and then printed the message. This is a crazy amount of work to do a simple print function, google needs to fix this ASAP - how hard can it be to add a simple air print function?
