Philly Orchardists,
See below for info about TreePhilly's fall yard tree giveaways.  In addition to shade and ornamental trees, options include some fruiting trees: juneberries, crabapples, elderberries, and pie cherries!  Note you need to be a Philly resident and the trees must be planted in the ground in a yard within the city.

Also, to be clear, this is TreePhilly's program not POP's, please follow up with them if any questions!

It's Yard Tree Giveaway Time!

Alternate text

TreePhilly is excited to host its Yard Tree Giveaway for the Fall season. We offer free trees to Philadelphia residents to plant in their yards as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to expand the urban tree canopy. This program allows homeowners to contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment and enjoy all the benefits of trees like improved air quality and shade.
Participants can choose from a variety of trees carefully selected to thrive in our area.  Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or new to tree planting, TreePhilly provides guidance on tree selection and how to plant and care for your tree.

Delivery & Planting Assistance:

If you don’t have access to a vehicle, TreePhilly offers delivery. This option is exclusively offered to residents who don’t have access to a vehicle to transport a tree. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to make it to an event this season, please consider coming out to an event in the future! We’d love to see you!

Planting assistance is available to those who are not physically able to plant their tree. Planting involves lifting a ~20lb pot (about the weight of a toddler), digging a small hole the size of a 5 gallon bucket and kneeling over to fill the hole by hand. Everyone receiving a tree will receive instructions on how to plant, plus an optional planting demonstration at pick-up events.

Philly Tree Plan in the News!

The Philly Tree Plan recently had the honor of hosting representatives from the Department of Agriculture to celebrate the $12 million grant investment from the Inflation Reduction Act. Partner organizations  participated in a roundtable and Tree walking tour in West Philly, learning more about our efforts to expand and sustain Philadelphia's urban tree canopy. Their visit underscores the importance of collaboration between local initiatives and federal agencies to ensure a greener, healthier future for our city.

Taking Care of Business!

City officials and non-profit leaders gathered at Temple University to announce the expansion of the Philadelphia Taking Care of Business Program (PHL TCB), an initiative originally proposed by Mayor Cherelle Parker during her time as a city councilwoman. The expansion, backed by a budget increase from $13.5 million to $23.9 million, will enable continued cleaning  and tree care on Philadelphia’s streets with the help of non-profit organizations and government agencies.
