Dear Kim:
On behalf of Clean Water Action and our partners at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology (CEET) and La Salle University, I am writing to you today to share our latest lead hazard awareness activity, "Lead in Soil Project: A Community-Led Soil Sampling for Lead Contamination Analysis".
The CWA is assisting CEET to achieve its goal to collect, test, and map soil samples for lead from all 154 Census districts in Philadelphia. This information will allow them to determine the scope of lead soil elevations at the neighborhood level for remediation, health education, and exposure reduction. The CWA is coordinating soil sample collection in support of the ongoing work at CEET and La Salle to test soil samples and map results. To date, the CEET Lead Soil Map Project shows the testing results for 3,164 samples.
We are seeking assistance to enlist volunteers to collect soil samples from everywhere children play in your legislative district: schoolyards, parks, playgrounds, vacant lots, and your constituent’s residential properties. Samples from public areas and willing residents will be shown on this interactive map as a resource for community use.
This project will begin in March. If you and/or others that you know of would be interested to volunteer and collect soil samples from your neighborhoods, please sign up using the volunteer button below and share this email widely with your neighbors and colleagues. You will receive more information from us after you sign up.
We look forward to your participation.
Thank you!
