The County Committee (or COC) acts as an advisory board to the Philadelphia FSA office. We meet 7 times a year, for about 2 hours at a time, and it is a paid position (time and travel). The COC weighs in on outreach and the direction of the office. And if we have non-routine applications (like a conflict of interest or an incomplete application), the COC can weigh in on how to proceed. A good portion of the meetings serves as me reporting my work to the COC, since the COC holds quite a bit of authority in how decisions are made and technically serves as my supervisor. The COC also serves as unofficial FSA ambassadors to the community, helping spread the word about the work we do.
See attached for more info about the upcoming COC election.
Every year the election is for a different part of the city, and members of the committee represent their respective areas. The election this fall is for Local Administrative Area 3 (see the attached map). To find out which LAA someone is in, use this link! People need to live in, grow in, or have an agricultural interest in that LAA, in order to represent it. We are currently doing outreach for nominations to run for election, as well as for general voting.
If either of your and/or anyone on your team is interested in running, please fill out the attached FSA-669 and return to me before Aug 1 (the deadline for nominations). The form (like all USDA forms) is not the easiest, so I can walk someone through it, if they need a hand.
Feel free to send recommendations my way or reach out if you’d like to discuss the opportunity more!
Thanks for considering!
