Hi,

I just started looking into phoenix recently and am quite intrigued by it.
When I looked at the roadmap, I saw realtime android client as a proposed feature.
I am assuming that this is somehow meant to leverage the websockets that phoenix
provides.

So my question is that, how much is it going strictly to be strictly tied to phoenix and how
would it really differ from some other android websocket clients like, say https://github.com/koush/android-websockets.

I just want to understand the client implementations of this websocket feature better.

Thanks,
Anurag Ramdasan.

Welcome!

An Android client for our channels is something I would really like with a 1.0 release. Our channel layer is specific to phoenix, but building a client on top of websockets is very straight forward. From the looks of `android-websockets`, you could build the client on top of it. Josh Adams put together a prototype java client during lunch at ElixirConf to give you an idea. We would love contributions in this area, so hop on #elixir-lang IRC and we can chat about it if interested. It might be worth checking out our js and swift clients:

This sounds great. I did checkout the JS client and the chat server talk. Which actually brought my attention to this.
I have been looking to contributing to phoenix for a few does, still working my way around the codebase.
Will drop by the IRC soon, although timezones might clash! :)
