Send Two Cambodian Stars to Singapore!

Two of our hard-working young players, Heng and Vutha, have been given the opportunity to train and compete in Singapore for a week, and you can help!

As I mentioned in a previous email, our friends in Singapore have given us a great opportunity. We are going to send two of our best down there to train with some of their best and then compete along side Crackerjacks, Singapore's premier men's club, at Singapore Open on August 14, 2015. During the week, our players will train with two Singaporean college teams, learning from some of the top coaches in the region. They will also get a chance to tour Singapore and become acquainted with another country in the region. Finally, they will cleat up, compete and make Cambodia proud as they suit up for Crackerjacks, Singapore's Open national champions.

This is a great chance for these boys to build up their own skills while meanwhile learning more about how other teams train. They will then bring these lessons back to Cambodia and will share them with their teammates and those just learning the game. We've chosen these guys in part because of the ways we know they will help Cambodian Ultimate on their return.

This is also a great chance for them to learn about their neighbors and make friends abroad. When they are not training, their teammates will be showing them around, giving them a taste of what Singapore has to offer. For these guys (neither of whom have been on a plane before), this a chance of a lifetime.

How can you help? Hop in and help fund their travels. Our YouCaring.com fundraiser is the best way to do that.

In the meantime, a little about the players...

Heng has been a leader from day one. He picked the game up quickly and has worked hard to continue to improve his game. He doesn't say much, but speaks through his play. Known as a steady handler on the offensive side he packs a lot of excitement into his defense game as well. As good as he's gotten, he has continued to improve and always takes and uses the coaching offered him. In this way he has been a great example for his teammates as well as new players. This experience will take his game to the next level and enable him to help his teammates to grow with him.

You always know when Vutha is around. He is not quiet. He is always encouraging his teammates, teaching younger players, or reminding himself what he needs to do to get better. His play in all aspects of the game, throwing, cutting and defense makes him one of our top all-around threats. While his play has been very valuable to us, Vutha's greatest strengths are his talents for and love of teaching the game. He has thrived when given the opportunity to coach area children. His passion for for making those around him better poises him to be one of Cambodia Ultimate's leaders for years to come.

To get Heng and Vutha to Singapore (and back) we have calculated the cost to be about USD500 per person. Our Singaporean friends have generously offered to provide housing and internal transportation to the boys. We need to buy plane tickets, food, and travel insurance. And provide some extra spending money for emergencies (and a little shopping).

Cambodia Ultimate thanks you for your help. If you decide to be super generous, we do have some small tokens of appreciation. Check out our YouCaring.com site for details.

I will keep the fundraiser up beyond the tourney date. If we come up short, I will provide the extra funds until we raise enough. If, though, we go beyond our goal, the extra funds will be put towards the women's clinic we have planned for the fall, which will introduce the game to young Cambodian women who haven't played before and improve the skills of those who have.

Once again, thank you for your generosity.

(Also big thanks to Brains Communication for Growth Through Ultimate's awesome logo)
