I am attaching here a more detailed explanation note on the changes regarding the 5th People's Health Assembly, compiled by the PHM Steering Council. French and Spanish translations are available if you scroll down in the document.

Since the postponement of the Assembly is big and complicated news, and many of you have reached out already wanting to discuss it further, I would like to know how many of you would be interested to attend an extraordinary PHM Europe regional call. If we would like to meet this week, I'm afraid I can only make it tomorrow and on Wednesday; if not, we can postpone it for early next week.

Je joins ici une note d'explication plus détaillée sur les changements concernant la 5ème Assemblée populaire de la santé, compilée par le Conseil directeur de PHM. Les traductions française et espagnole sont disponibles en bas du document.

Comme le transfert de l'Assemblée est une grosse nouvelle, et que beaucoup d'entre vous m'ont déjà contacté pour en discuter plus avant, j'aimerais savoir combien d'entre vous seraient intéressés pour participer à un appel régional extraordinaire du PHM Europe. Si nous souhaitons nous rencontrer cette semaine, je crains de ne pouvoir le faire que demain et mercredi ; sinon, nous pouvons le reporter au début de la semaine prochaine.

The PHM Steering Council held an extraordinary meeting yesterday to discuss the organization of the PHA 5 in Cali, Colombia. Due to concerns communicated both from the International Organizing Committee and the local organizing committee in Cali, the Steering Council has decided to stop the preparations for the Assembly in Cali.

Most of the Steering Council members felt that the issues which arose over the last couple of months could not be tackled on time for the PHA 5 to take place as planned. Over the next weeks, the PHM Steering Council will seek to find another option for the Assembly. Needless to say, this is far from an ideal situation, and if you all want, we can take the topic up next time we meet.

Considering this information, I kindly ask you to adapt local mobilization processes to reflect the news. Regrettably, since the decision is very fresh, I cannot really offer much guidance on what to expect right now - but the important thing is that everyone who was planning to register and book a plane ticket does not go ahead with that plan.

I'm honestly sorry to be the bearer of such bad news, especially since we were all really looking forward to meeting our Latin American comrades. I do hope that there will be an alternative up and running soon, and that we'll be able to continue our regional selection process without further delay.

All the updates that I get will be communicated on the list, and over the next regional calls, so please keep both eyes open for that.

Le Steering Council (SC) du PHM a tenu une réunion extraordinaire hier pour discuter de l'organisation de la 5ème PHA à Cali, en Colombie. Face à des problèmes communiqués à la fois par le Comité international d'organisation et le Comité local d'organisation à Cali, le SC a décidé d'interrompre les préparatifs de l'Assemblée à Cali.

La plupart des membres du SC ont estimé que les questions soulevées au cours des deux derniers mois ne pourraient pas être résolues à temps pour que l'ASP 5 ait lieu comme prévu. Au cours des prochaines semaines, le SC de PHM s'efforcera de trouver une autre option pour l'Assemblée. Il va sans dire que cette situation est loin d'être idéale et, si vous le souhaitez tous, nous pourrons aborder ce sujet lors de notre prochaine rencontre online.

Compte tenu de ces informations, je vous demande de bien vouloir adapter les processus de mobilisation locale en conséquence. Je regrette de ne pas pouvoir vous donner beaucoup d'indications sur ce à quoi il faut s'attendre pour l'instant, car la décision est très récente, mais l'essentiel est que tous ceux qui avaient l'intention de s'inscrire et d'acheter un billet d'avion ne le fassent pas.

Je suis sincèrement désolé d'être le porteur d'une si mauvaise nouvelle, d'autant plus que nous étions tous impatients de rencontrer nos camarades de l'Amérique du Sud. J'espère qu'il y aura bientôt une alternative et que nous pourrons poursuivre notre processus de sélection régionale sans autre délai.

Toutes les mises à jour que j'obtiendrai seront communiquées sur la liste et lors des prochains appels régionaux, alors gardez les yeux ouverts.
