Dear PHM Nigeria

In solidarity with the girls that were abducted would it be possible to issue a short statement today as PHM Nigeria which we could put all the PHM Communication platforms.

This is indeed a sad situation

Hope to hear from you soon

Dear All,

Please find below the statement that will be sent to Linda as requested. This is shared for your perusal and comments.

_______________________________________________________________________________

PHM Nigeria strongly condemns the abduction of the over 200 girls by the Boko Haram (Jamaatu Allus sunna lil daawati wal jihad) from their school premises in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria. All the girls want is to gain an education and be the best they can be to the society and the country at large.

Ideologies, religion and beliefs have nothing to do with these girls and as such no moral justification for the misguided group (Boko Haram). We want them to know that real men do not buy or sell girls.

PHM Nigeria is in support of the joint effort of the civilized world to fight this terrorist act and free our girls. Our thoughts are with the families of these girls and we pray these girls will be found, freed and returned safely to their parents.

We also thank all civil society organizations, international organizations, all nations and all voices lend to the condemnation of this heinous act.

well done Gbenga but find a way to reflect the global campaign hashtag in the statement: #BringOurGirlsBack.
Thank you.

Thank you Gbenga for this and all your past efforts to keep PHM moving. This proposed statement is good and I only think as a health movement we should also include a paragraph highlighting possible health hazards the girls are currently likely to be exposed to and warn those in authotity to be prepared to tackle these in the event of their eventual rescue. These will include common infections of people living in dirty camps, STIs, unwanted pregnancies, HIV, Psychiatric disturbances, physical injuries and so on.

I hope it will draw the attention of the right people.

Pat

Just to add, please remember to mention the poor state of our medical infrastructure and how PHM had been advocating for health for all. Now how do we manage these girls locally when health facilities are so poor. It is to forestall such emergencies that health for all is a MUST and now!

Good morning everyone,

Thank you so much for putting this together.
It is indeed a challenging time for us as a country and I just wonder how we got ourselves into all these mess.

This is probably late (many thanks to time zone differences anyway!) but the statement reads well- with the comments from Dr. Pat and Charles.

I am also trying to put together a peaceful protest here in Boston next week if I get police approval on time and hope it goes well. My daughter in solidarity, with her Chibok sisters also has a Bring back our girl "placard" on behalf of PHM Nigeria that I have attached to this email.

Thank you once again everyone.

Kemi

Good morning all,

Thank you so much Gbenga and all for putting this together. I apologize for the late response. Due to the time difference factor, I just saw the mail now.
The situation is indeed pathetic as one wonders when the quest for knowledge became an offence and why the lives of innocent girls should be toyed with like a game of cards.
Our dear country is now a 'ghost' of its former self and the situation keeps getting worse.
I will link up with Kemi over here to see how we can further lend our voices to yours from over here.
Once again, thank you very much.
