Meeting in Dakar to revitalize the Senegal PHM circle.

Claudio was in Dakar recently and on the 18th of March held a meeting in the premises of AHDIS, the local NGO that had helped PHM hold the IPHU there 4 years ago. Its Director, Amacodou Diouf was not able to attend but three members of his staff did. Additionally, 2 members of the NGO Action Sante Communautaire attended. The latter was created in 2008 by graduates of the diploma course on community health at the local university. There are about 200 graduates of this course since 2008 and they are involved in community health work all over the country. They got organized and expressed a keen interest in joining PHM. The contact with them was established through one of our Senegalese IPHU graduates. Their NGO is supported by the university. Quite a bit of work has been done on HIV and AIDS with a focus on stigmatization and work in local highschools. They have also been involved in PHC discussion groups in many locations. They are in the process of legalizing their organization and hold an annual meeting of all associates.

Claudio gave an introductory talk on PHM’s work emphasizing the mutual interest and advantages for them and for PHM Global to collaborate by them getting organized into a circle. After the IPHU, a nascent circle was formed, but did not continue functioning so the aim now is to revive it. AHDIS is also committed to this.

Our Africa coordinator Linda Mashingaidze has also been in touch with them and will provide follow up. Participants in the meeting were added to the phm-exchange and asked to visit our website to study and endorse our People's Charter for Health.
