I was watching Good Day Philadelphia today and they showed a clip of Ira
Einhorn, his girlfriend/wife, and an entourage coming out of a home in some
French village, where John Walsh of America's Most Wanted fame and the
camera crew (presumably a FOX camera crew) were waiting. Walsh went to
Einhorn, calling him a coward for not going back to America to be retried.
Einhorn's entourage repeatedly shoved Walsh, and Walsh then was yelling at
the entourage members.

Now, I don't disagree with John Walsh's opinion one bit, but does FOX really
need to spend money to send him over there to agitate a convicted (even
though in absentia) murderer? The whole thing looked in poor taste to me.

The Fox Network doing something in bad taste? <sarc> I find that hard to
believe! </sarc>. IMO, Fox and the other commercial networks should be the
defendants of a class action suit charging them with the dumbing down of
America.
I've pretty much sworn off everything except PBS. Although I don't feel any
smarter yet, I am sure it is doing me more good than the other networks can.

Think of it as getting dumber much more slowly.

Only if America chooses to be dumbed-down. We have the option to shut off
the TV and read, you know.

Yeah you can do OK with PBS now. For a time there it was pretty much mostly
import whatever from England. Not that there's anything wrong with British
programming, but I think that a government-funded network such as PBS should
make every effort to broadcast programming made in the States. Like I said,
though, this has improved.

I had heard a whole back that PBS was going to lose all its government
funding. Part of the "Contact with America" where government funding of
arts is wasteful. I had assumed that they had their gov't funding
eliminated.

As for turning the TV off......what can I say, they hooked me at a young age
with youth-oriented advertising just like the tobacco companies did.

There have been studies that show that TV shortens a person's attention
span, thus making them dumber. I would like to see a study that proves that
television is addictive. There are many people I know who say they watch
too much TV. While they do not admit to being addicted, by admitting that
they watch too much TV, they are expressing a desire to stop watching TV so
much.

A lot of programs on PBS have part of their tab paid by the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting, which I do believe is government funded. If government
finding of PBS were eliminated, you wouldn't be seeing the CPB logo before
PBS shows.

Usually addiction is a chemical process involving a drug. I do not see that
here, so maybe it's more of a psychological study.

Where have you been? PBS is bearly funded by the government. It's funded by
corporations like Exxon & pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Check out this webpage:

You shall see graphs and other things that point contrary to your statement.
Where have *you* been? :-)

By government, we're not only talking Federal, but state and local. Nice
chart with percentages says it all.
