ï Design, develop, and direct a broad range of neuroscience research
projects at an internationally respected facility. Prepare and publish
written reports on these projects in scholarly publications.
Make formal presentations at domestic and international conferences.
ï Assume a leadership role in every aspect of the operation, including
proposal writing, grant administration, marketing initiatives,
and educational programs for students, physicians, and other health care
professionals.
ï Recruit patients for participation in these studies, obtain consent forms,
assess patients on an ongoing basis,develop research protocol, ensure
compliance to protocol, and develop and manage database.
ï Coordinate activity with Development Office, Accounting, Human Resources,
and other departments of the hospital.

Selected Accomplishments:
ï Created the concept of the Neuroscience Research Institute as Research
Associate
in Pennsylvania Hospital's Department of Neurosurgery, secured the
participation
of Dr. Frederick Simeone (an internationally known neurosurgeon), gained the
approval of key hospital administrators, identified a variety of funding
sources,
and handled every other logistical consideration associated with
bringing this program
into existence.
ï Gained recognition for developing and directing a number of unique, highly
innovative research projects, from conception of original protocol
through publication.
These projects included a study of circadian rhythms in ICU patients and
the possible use of light treatment as a therapeutic intervention.
Project was included in the Rolex Foundation's 1993 edition of Spirit of
Enterprise.
ï Directed an investigation into the mechanism responsible for preventing
brain cell
damage during low flow states associated with hibernating woodchucks.
ï Secured funding from The Sharp Foundation, which awarded the
Neuroscience Research
Institute perpetual funding on the basis of our work in the
neurosciences, including a $1.25 million grant.
ï Published articles in numerous scholarly publications, including Journal
of Healthcare Design,
Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease,
Blood Vessels, and others.
ï Presented research findings at international conferences in England,
France, Scotland, and Sweden.
ï Was invited to review submitted manuscripts for a number of scholarly
publications during this
time period, and to make recommendations on their acceptance or rejection.
Publications included Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, Blood
Vessels, and Stroke.
ï Created and served as executive editor of Brain Bites, a neuroscience
newsletter for
members of the general public.
ï Developed educational programs for high school, college, graduate, and
medical students where
none had previously existed. These programs allowed students to observe
and participate in
medical and scientific research. (The Institute also hosted a number of
visiting M.D.s and Ph.D.'s
from abroad during this same time period.)
ï Developed a marketing program in order to shape and maintain public
perception of the Institute.
Program consisted of a lecture series, brochure, and other key components.
ï Identified specific trends in the health care industry, then outlined a
plan to build a
Neurosurgery Center at Pennsylvania Hospital.
ï Served on Marketing Committee at Wills Eye Hospital's Neurosensory Institute,
developing brochures and web site.
ï Played vital role in expansion of Neuroscience Research Institute to
include researchers at
Thomas Jefferson University.
ï Conceived and developed interactive multimedia software for patient
behavior modification
program, then submitted grant proposal to Rolex Foundation.

ï Designed and executed research projects in the Department of Neurosurgery.

ï Received the Dora Weiner Award for the study of cerebral vasospasm.
ï Designed and built an enhanced model for use in vascular research.
This model significantly improved the ability to study normal vascular
physiology and was utilized by research teams at other locations.
