Thanks to the kind support of Sunoco Welcome America!, we will be
holding an ‘honor band’ event here in Philadelphia on Saturday, June
28th. Students nominated to this ensemble by their teachers will have
the opportunity to perform for thousands at the Sunoco Welcome
America! Festival at the end of our day-long event with students from
across the region.
Students who participate in this ensemble will have the opportunity to
apply for one of a large number of full and partial scholarships to
attend our week-long summer camp, either as commuters or
overnighters. Really, it’s a day full of good music and good fun!
Check out the honor band website linked above to see Youtube clips and
pictures from last year’s event.
The 2008 Penn Band Summer Camp for High School Musicians
(www.pennband.net/pebc/)
Our summer camp program is in its 5th year here in Philadelphia. We
have a fantastic program taking shape – one not to be missed! From
fantastic music in our new facilities to fun activities on campus and
in the city to great performance opportunities, our program promises
students a rewarding experience that will not be found anywhere else!
· Explore Philadelphia, including planned trips to Center City
Philadelphia and the waterfront
· Experience Life on a College Campus, including
accommodations in the famous Quadrangle and activities at places such
as Franklin Field
· Play Great Music with members of the Penn Band; a wide
variety of music from jazz to concert band to pop songs you hear on
the radio!
· Great Performance Opportunities with guest musicians,
including a performance of the national anthem at a Trenton Thunder
baseball game, a Children’s Concert at the University Museum, and our
camp end recital at Iron Gate Theater.
· Have a Lot of Fun! We pride ourselves on the fact that
students have a memorable experience that they will never forget!
As one of the oldest and most active college band programs in the
country, the Penn Band prides itself on its unique blend of tradition,
good music, and good fun – a blend found nowhere else. We encourage
you to also visit the group’s website at www.pennband.net to learn
more about our 110 year-old organization.
Enjoy the wonderful weather, and don’t hesitate to contact me with any
questions or to request more information, including references and
brochures. We really hope we get the chance to work with your son or
daughter this summer at Penn!
