Dr. Flisser started the group off by mentioning the new fee schedule
of ~
$73 for induction fee. This is supposed to cover the cords expense for
graduation ceremony. Those who have been inducted in the past will
have to
purchase their own regalia from
ptk.org.
Phi Theta Kappa Meetings - unless ratified, they will all begin at
4:00pm
Monday March 9th
Monday April 6th
Wednesday May 6th
We will be planning an orientation week (ideally a day or two) to
introduce
new inductees to our work. This is TBD.
Scholarship
General scholarship application at
camdencc.edu/foundation/scholarships.htmis due February 16th.
Department specific scholarships are available through
your academic dean. Over 700 schools offer transfer scholarships, more
info
available at
scholarships.ptk.org. Collegefish.org is another web site
where
one can find scholarships targeted toward your interests and majors.
Gradeguru.com is a site where you can upload your class notes and earn
money
as people refer to them.
John Neckonchuk brought up an idea which Muqaddas had said there was a
need
for at the school and we all agreed. We want to set up a peer tutoring
network where students who have gotten good grades in a particular
class or
specialization can serve as a mentor or distance mentor. Another need
that
was introduced was a literacy program. I have done a little research
and
have found that the Camden Campus offers similar services. I would
like
someone to contact that department and see what they are doing, if we
can
set up a similar program in Blackwood or see what we can do. 856 968
1315
adult basic skills classes, camden campus community development
program. Let
me know if you contact them.
Service
We will volunteer for the concert and will invites kappans from other
area
colleges to participate. More info forthcoming. UPDATe: This Monday
(2-16)
at 1:30pm in Jackie Tenuto's office there will be a meeting to discuss
possible dates for this. The committee didn't seem to hip for donating
funds
to charity, that the money should be kept in an account for later use.
They
said maybe we could do something like this in the future, probably not
in
2009. To this end, I think we should push getting food donation and
book
donation collection programs together. Please let me know if you are
contacting the sponsoring agencies.
We will be having a table for the spring fling and will need
volunteers for
this.
A non-profit animal shelter is looking for help in putting together a
commercial to be aired on TV. If anyone has experience or equipment
for
this, please contact Troy at
tolt...@gmail.com.
Our partnership with the NJ Tree Foundation will continue in April
when
plantings resume.
Volunteering at a Camden Soup Kitchen - can anyone get me more
information
regarding this?
Fellowship
Trip to Washington DC for cherry blossoms April 11 2009. Will be a fun
trip
and some members seemed to be interested. I believe Jackie Tenuto
knows
where we can buy tickets.
I would like for at least one member from PTK to attend the monthly
student
government meetings to spread awareness and talk about upcoming
events.
Schedules are available in front of Jackie Tenuto's office
Induction
The school will be providing food and such. We need to put together an
agenda for the night and discuss with the college president. Could use
a
writer and creatives to put together a slide show. Most information
can be
found on the PTK website. We would like to include this in an upcoming
publication of campus press.
After the meeting, I put out brochures for the organization.
I found out that there is a free seminar series put on by the History
and
Political Science departments featuring Chinese scholars discussing
China's
global impact. I think these would be excellent to attend to really
understand what is going on across the planet and how it is going to
affect
us and our children. They are Wednesday nights 7pm in the connector
building. The school website has more information. I think it would be
neat
to invite a high school honors society to this event, however I would
need
to clear this with the series' host. At any rate I think that
involving a
high school honors society would be great and I am open to any ideas.
