PTK members: are you available for a meeting next Monday at 4pm? This
is spring break, but the school is still open. Following my message,
Dr. Flisser has some upcoming projects that we will be needing
volunteers for. Also if you don't mind, please response with your name
and phone number so that we can begin putting together a phone list.
Dr. Flisser,
I talked with the secretary at Jackie's office and we can borrow the
room for Monday, which I scheduled. I haven't sent out an email yet,
but I think most folks can make it because it is spring break and they
likely have the day off anyway. Jackie said that the administration is
going to be there so it is all good. I think it is important to have
the meeting before we engage in this registration event to get solid
volunteers.
re: tree plantings, there were a couple of dates that they really
didn't need volunteers for, but they are not the dates that we have
chosen. I think it would be great to go to all three, they all start
at 9am and are wrapped up pretty quick on Saturday.
the induction ceremony should be looked at in depth, we can review the
materials we have in the binder as well as the templates for
ceremonies on PTK.org
Book donations: I'm all for it, we should check with local libraries
as well because better world has a recycling program as well as I am
sure that books wear over time and we may be able to acquire them.
Earth day - yes yes, I have some other ideas as well. Arbor day falls
close to Earth day if I am correct and if we register as a member of
the arbor day foundation, they will donate 10 trees to us that we can
plant on campus, or wherever we please. Also, the arbor day foundation
has a green campus initiative or something like that where the school
only needs to set a program to handle tree care and a few other
requirements to gain recognition. I would assume the school has some
kind of plan in effect, it's just a matter of documenting it and
fulfilling the other requirements. More info at
www.arborday.org I
even had another idea that would be neat, but could be costly: to set
up some kind of arboretum/garden up on campus using a variety of
plants.
I have set up a meeting with the college president for next week and I
would like if you could attend, it is Wednesday at 2pm (I should
confirm that with his assistant) and if anyone else would want to
come.
Lastly, Kristen and I have been working on a project utilizing some
free lecture/discussions that the school is offering concerning the
nation of China. Our original idea was to invite high schools history
students or honors students to attend, but as far as I know, we
haven't received a response. Because of this, I think we could still
do up some flyers for the school and get some of our own students to
attend and participate in the discussion.
Thanks for your time
