Welcome all new members!

My name is Troy and I am the student president of Phi Theta Kappa -
Alpha Nu Mu chapter. For those of you still waiting on your packets
and wanting to know more about what PTK is all about, we focus on four
key hallmarks in our projects: scholarship, leadership, fellowship,
and service.

Our overreaching goals for the year are to meet Phi Theta Kappa
internationals challenge of making a difference in the world around us
according to the Honors Study Topic: The Paradox of Affluence (http://
www.ptk.org/honors/guide/) and the International Service Program:
Operation Green: Improving our Communities (http://www.ptk.org/
service/).

If you aren't already aware, participating in Phi Theta Kappa
meetings, events, and service projects is entirely voluntary. However,
you have already proven that you are scholars; let us help you put
your skills, time, and knowledge to the test. Whether tutoring a
friend, giving meals and other essentials to the less fortunate, or
planting trees, volunteering can be one of the most enlightening and
rewarding things you can do to help your fellow neighbor and
strengthen your community's foundation.

I wish to see you all at the induction ceremony in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your time. If you have any questions or concerns, feel
free,

Troy R Oltmanns

PS: The attached message talks about Earth Hour, a global initiative
to bring about awareness of climate change. It's premise is simple:
tomorrow night (Saturday), at 8:30pm, turn your lights off, unplug
your electronics, and be one of the one billion people calling for
global sustainability. Your "votes" will be presented to world leaders
at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. This
meeting will determine official government policies to take action
against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is
the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
