Hi Guys,

as the title states the iso is ready for testing ... please down load your copy from SF ...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/phinxdesktop/files/2012/phinxdesktop-2012-64bit-beta1.iso

http://sourceforge.net/projects/phinxdesktop/files/2012/phinxdesktop-2012-64bit-beta1.iso.md5sum

It runs the latest pclos 3.2.18 kernel ... a few issues which are known as follows

some broadcom chips might have minor connectivity issues or dropping signal ...

upgrading to the latest nvidia drivers can break your xorg.conf and cause grafix crashes ...

other than that have fun testing and keep all feedback in the testing group

Just installed in VirtualBox. No major issues so far. One minor one is two copies of Net Applet open but easy enough to fix by disabling one in sessions and startup. I know there's also an autostart file somewhere but it escapes me at the moment.

Hi Louis,

you will be able to find the autostart link in your /home/user/.config/autostart folder :D

I'm having a problem with xfce4-screenshooter. It opens and actually takes a pic, but it won't save.

Kori, I keep forgetting to ask, for testing this is it okay to have the "test" section enabled?

I have a package installed there is an update for kbd 1.15-1pclos2011 to 1.15-2phinx2012. However, it wants to remove just about everything :P

I can confirm this issue about kbd. It removes really loads of stuff.

Second... i wouldn't enable Testing at all since we are working towards a stable release but before we get there we need to leave and test the iso's as is. That's my thought on it. :)
Enabeling testing messes more things up and would it be harder for Sproggy and us to locate bugs and fix things.

As you know we are drifting away more and more from pclos to become a more independent distro in the end. The Pclos repo's will disappear once we are finished with everything but also this will take a while. :)

I just made a screenshot to post on the forum. The screenie was taken and saved without any problems on my end. :)

I'm running it in VirtualBox, too. I guess I have a laundry list to present.

I unchecked NetApplet (Network monitoring applet) Command:/usr/bin/net_applet -force in XFCE control panel > Session and Startup > Application Autostart tab in regards to the two net applets in the panel Louis referred to.

In the XFCE control panel, Configure XScreensaver gives the following error: Failed to execute child process "xscreensaver-demo" (No such file or directory). The solution is to install xscreensaver package in Synaptic.

Running Update Package Sources List from XFCE control panel or the menu gives error message: Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/apt-sources-update" (No such file or directory). apt-sources-update package is missing from 64bit repositories.

Don't know if this was an installation glitch or not. Top panel, left side, where the Synaptic launcher should be, the launcher was empty. Simple fix is to add Synaptic to it.

One other issue is the Display option from the XFCE control panel shows 1152x864 option, but it cannot be selected. If I run xfce4-display-settings & as root, I am able to select 1152x864. /etc/X11/xorg.conf is set to 1152x864, PCC > Hardware > Configure Video Card is set to 1152x864. VBox screen size at the login screen is 1152x864. If I login as regular user, desktop size changes to 1024x768. If I login as root, desktop size stays at 1152x864.

The last one is a problem with PCLOS package dependencies. After installation, I opened Synaptic and checked the repository sources. Then, I did a reload and upgraded. Package apt-sources-list was updated from version 1.0.1.1-2pclos2012 to 1.0.2-2pclos2012. The new version erases Sproggy's custom repo. Okay, so I pulled it out of /etc/apt/sources.list.rpmsave and inserted it back into /etc/apt/sources.list. I then tried to uninstall the apt-sources-list package. Doing so would take addlocale, apt, lomanager and synaptic with it. lomanager ??? Seriously? So, I restarted with the installation CD in the drive, fired up Synaptic and tried to remove the previous 1.0.1.1-2pclos2012 version of apt-sources-list. Same deal. Again, lomanager ???

I rebooted from the updated installation, backed up /etc/apt/sources.list, then ran rpm -e --nodeps apt-sources-list-1.0.2-2pclos2012. It took out the package. Thought that would not be a problem until I fired up Synaptic. Broken package right off the bat. The package? apt. So I tried to do a reload. No go. Why? I had no /etc/apt/sources.list file. Yep. The forced removal of the apt-sources-list package also deleted the /etc/apt/sources.list file. Unbelievable. Should I say previously inconceivable?

So, in summary, updating apt-sources-list package as a normal course of business will delete Sproggy's custom repo. Trying to remove the package will delete all package manager related programs, not to mention lomanager. Did I mention lomanager? I decided to try the same thing with the 32bit version of apt-sources-list, which is version 1.0.1-2pclos2012. Mark it for complete removal. No other packages marked. Completely remove it. /etc/apt/sources.list still intact. Looking at the spec files for both rpm versions, (32 and 64 bit), I see nothing obvious. But, I'm not a packager and don't have a clue what to look for.

Only one other thing to report. It's just error messages after update of xfce4-power-manager from 1.2.0-1phinx2012) to 1.2.0-2phinx2012. I believe the messages are harmless, except, possibly, the last one.

About the xscreensaver... i can confirm that. But..... there's a but.... if xscreensaver is installed on my real 64bit install on the laptop and the screensaver does it's job, nothing can be clicked on on the desktop, panels etc.
The only thing that is clickable is, as i set Action buttons, Log out. But however when the window pops up where you can choose to log out, restart, shutdown etc. it doesn't seem to work either.

Only thing left to do is press the powerbutton on the machine itself.

The apt-sources and repo problem is going to be sorted at the moment. Sproggy is working on that.

I ran into all the same issues. I just hadn't gotten very far when I wrote my post. I had noticed the problem with apt-sources-list but just re-added the Phinx repo as DJ mentions. I didn't try to remove it.

As far as the display option reverting to 1024x768 I think that has been an issue with any PCLOS and VirtualBox ever since I have used PCLOS, and that was around the 2009 .isos. I gave up asking about VirtualBox and PCLOS long ago because I was told "well, try it on metal or", "it's a VirtualBox problem" or, "We're not concerned if it runs in VirtalBox", etc.

First time I've encountered it, Louis. Like I said, the resolution is
correct for the root user, but not correct for the regular user.

hmmm, every time I install a new kernel from testing whether 32bit or 64bit I've had a message saying something on the order of "reverting to 1028x768". I have to admit though I have shied away from messing with anything to do with the graphics because every time I ever went into PCC and tried to turn on or off a feature, compositing etc., PCLOS wants to download and install video drivers etc. and screwing up the vbox video drivers.

Got the update(s) today. One was Sproggy's apt-sources-list and one
was a (PCLOS) addlocale update. For some odd reason, those two updates
in Synaptic kept me going in circles when trying to install. I closed
Synaptic, did an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade and
everything was peachy. Thanks, Kori!

When looking at my user's home directory, I discovered some of the
files/directories belonged to darrel:audio. After opening PCC, I
discovered that my created user darrel was not a member of the group
darrel. After correcting that, I changed the user's primary group from
audio to darrel. Then I recursively changed ownership of all files/
directories in the user's home folder. Of course, I had a problem with
~/.gvfs, but took care of that later.

I still cannot figure out what the deal is with the screen resolution
for user darrel. xfce4-display-settings just will not let me change it
from 1024x768 to 1152x864, although it works for root.

Hi Darrel ..

thanks for testing by the way ... can you confirm if you have installed this as a fresh install or if you have a previous /home partition you are using ... i have performed several fresh installs and none set my user as kori:audio ... you can resolve that without having to go into PCC ... just open a root terminal and type chown darrel:darrel * and depending on how deep your folder structure goes add /* after the intial * as manytimes as needed ...

check in PCC for the screen resolution and the monitor resolutions .... ensure that you /home.config directory has you as it's owner and all it's contents and that you have read/write access as it may not be able to save the settings

It was a fresh install in a VM. Newly created VM, newly created
virtual drive. I checked the md5sum of the iso and it tallies with the
one you issued. HOWEVER, when you said you couldn't duplicate the
problem, I assumed it must be on my end. I wiped everything and
started again. During live CD run, I checked guest's home folder
permissions and group membership. All normal.

After installation, I checked the user darrel's home folder
permissions and group membership. All normal. I fully updated in
Synaptic. Everything still normal. Installed the newest VBox guest
additions and rebooted. Set screen resolution to 1152x768 and it now
works just as it should. I'm at a total loss to explain it. I didn't
do anything out of the ordinary first time around. PEBKAC?

Hi All
From the things I use, everything is working for me. It's good to see LibreOffice loading. The only item is the globe in Google Earth is not coming up to view. It's just a small dot. From what I have read it's also happening with other distros. That's not a serious problem with me.

Same here. Not working on 32 or 64bit install. The xfce4-weather-

Phinx's version is currently on 0.7.4 i will have a check on the 0.7.3 version later to confirm if it is indeed working and possibly issue a rollback version to the repo :D
