PHINMS Console Stack dump after update from RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.3 to RHEL 7.4

Here is a courtesy notice of a work around for a fatal Console launch failure resulting from upgrading the RedHat Enterprise Linux OS from release 7.3 to 7.4.

 

In short, the default font is different between these two versions of RHEL.  This alteration causes the PHINMS Console to crash when used with both OpenJDK and IBM Java.  

To you will need to modify the local.conf file to manually reset the font configuration’s preferred font family to the old value before you can restore functionality. 

 

The relevant configuration file is here: /etc/fonts/local.conf

For disclosure, we are running PHINMS 2.8.03 SP1 with OpenJDK.
