The Canadian Society for History and Philosophy of Mathematics (http://www.cshpm.org/) invites members as well as the broader scholarly community to the next talk in our online colloquium series via Zoom. Participants are encouraged to become members (for as little as $10-$30/year, depending on your employment status), but it is not required. Non-members can get regular updates on our activities by liking us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/cshpmschpm). The talk will last 30 minutes, followed by a Q&A.

Colin McLarty, Case Western Reserve University, will deliver the 28th talk of the CSHPM Online Colloquium series.
DATE: December 15th
TIME: Vancouver 11:00; Montreal/Toronto 14:00

TITLE: Let's talk about *some* mathematics
ABSTRACT: By "some" mathematics I mean not mathematics according to one or another general definition but mathematics being done, now, over in the math department.  Or done at some other specific place, or historic time, by specified mathematicians.   Philosophers of mathematics can talk with each other about each other's ideas, and that's great.  There should be more of that than there is between various different philosophies of mathematics.  But the dialogue is likely to run longer and go deeper the more it draws on specific (relatively) uncontroversial productive mathematics as (potentially) common ground for discussion.
